Lorene Barringer Obituary

BUNCOMBE -- Lorene Barringer, 92, died at 7:10 a.m. Saturday, May 21, 2011, in Anna Rehab and Care Center.

She was born Feb. 17, 1919, in Union County, the daughter of William and Addie L. Manus Thorton.

She was married to George O. Barringer on Feb. 17, 1936, in Buncombe. He preceded her in death Sept. 27, 1998.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Patsie and William (Gerald) Griffith of Lick Creek; a son-in-low, Steve Smith of Murphysboro; seven grandchildren, Samdre (Wes) Lyerla of Cobden, Crystal (Tom) Kee of Lick Creek, Lorraine (Shawn) Moreland of Cobden, Dawn (Ken) Sharkey of Tampa, Fla., Danny Durbin of Cobden, Dina (Tim) Clover of Cobden, and Maria (Eric) Boerngen of Mattoon; seven great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, many stepgrandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; two daughters and a son-in-law, Mary L. Smith, Anna Lee and Fred Durbin; a brother, Charles Thornton; and an infant brother, William Pinckney.

Lorene was a homemaker and farm wife. She was a longtime member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Services for Mrs. Lorene Barringer will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, in Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Anna, with the Rev. Andy Gillespie officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery near Buncombe. Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to New Hope Baptist Church.

Rendleman and Hileman is in charge of arrangements.
