Lucy Garrett Obituary

ELKVILLE -- Lucy Ann Garrett, 91, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at her daughter's home in Elkville.

Lucy was born Dec. 7, 1919, in Crossville, a daughter to William and Lucy Ann (Graves) Renshaw. On Oct. 4, 1940, Lucy married Harmon Burt Garrett in Panther Creek Church in Red Field, Iowa. Harmon preceded Lucy in death May 10, 1998.

She was a homemaker who loved taking care of her family and enjoyed preparing home-cooked meals for family and friends.

Lucy was a member of Spirit of Life Christian Church in Du Quoin her entire life and was devoted to doing God's work. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Lucy is survived by three daughters, Louise (Gene) Anderson of Elkville, Linda (Hugh) Wilson of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Vonda (Rod) Kellogg of Du Quoin; 11 grandchildren, Susan Anderson, Velvet Parrilli, Gale LeMasters, Johnna Francis, Melody Ross, Brian Wilson, Scott Wilson, Ron Wilson, Kevin Wilson, Karen Cook and Michelle O'Neal; 21 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a brother, Jim Renshaw; and a sister, Clara McKnight.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 9, 2011, in Spirit of Life Christian Church in Du Quoin with the Rev. Gerald Wright officiating. Interment will be in Stokes Chapel Cemetery in Crossville.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 8, 2011, at Pyatt Funeral Home in Du Quoin and from 8 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Louise, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your mother. You have always been like a mom to me. It makes me sad to know your hurting. Just take comfort in knowing that you mom is in heaven and you will see her again.
