Margaret Poiter Obituary

HERRIN -- Margaret R. "Margie" Poiter, 74, passed away at 1:41 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2011, in Landmark Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

Margie was a homemaker and had worked as a waitress and cook in several restaurants. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. She was born May 30, 1937, in Carbondale.

Margie was united in marriage with R. Dale Poiter on Oct. 12, 1955, in Du Quoin.

Surviving are her husband of 55 years, R. Dale Poiter of Herrin; mother, Virginia Armstrong of Carterville; three children, Patrick Poiter and his wife, Sherry, of Alto Pass, Peggy Dooley of Herrin and Robert Poiter of Herrin; three grandchildren, Caitlin Dooley of Godfrey, Heather Poiter and her fiancé, Floyd Oliphant, of Alto Pass and Meaghan Dooley of Herrin; one great-grandson, Mason Oliphant; and one great-granddaughter due in July; brother and sister-in-law, Jackie and Beverly Cover of Carterville; sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Paul Ranmar of Energy.

She was preceded in death by her brother, John Thomas Cover.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2011, in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin with Monsignor Ken Schaefer officiating. Interment will be in San Carlo Cemetery in Herrin. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Meredith Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin. A prayer service will be at 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial donations are suggested to Shawnee Christian Nursing Center, 1901 North 13th Street, Herrin, IL 62948 and will be accepted at the funeral home.
