METROPOLIS - Mary Lou Margherio, 84, passed away at 5:50 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2011, at her home with her family by her side.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2011, in Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis, with Father Michael Chris Mujule and Father Jerry Wurth officiating. Burial will be in Metropolis Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Rodney Edwards, Paul Cavaness, Andy Margherio, Seth Mittendorf, Kasey Prescott, Dalton Mittendorf and Christian Cavaness. Honorary pallbearers are Scott Margherio and Drew Prescott.

Mary Lou was born April 11, 1927, in Springfield, Ohio, to Van and Jenny (Mueller) Rider.
She was an avid reader and golfer, and she was a fabulous cook and loved to travel. She was a tireless volunteer for St. Rose of Lima parish and community charities.
Mary Lou always remembered friends who were ill, bereaved or confined to nursing homes with visits and acts of kindness. Her family loved and cherished every moment they spent with her.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Richard Margherio; children, Cindy Parrino and husband John of Marietta, Ga., Nancy Hess and husband Ron of Cape Girardeau, Tony Margherio and wife Brenda of Metropolis, Kathy Prescott and husband Jim of Metropolis, Mary Ann Mittendorf and husband Wally of Metropolis and Lisa Margherio and (Merry) Miller of Quincy; grandchildren, Rodney Edwards of Jackson, Mo., Meredith Moreland of Atlanta, Missy Quint of Brookport, Kristi Cavaness of Cape Girardeau, Scott Margherio of Metropolis, Drew Prescott of Korzendorf, Germany, Andy Margherio of Marion, Seth Margherio of Metropolis, Kasey Precott of Metropolis and Dalton Mittendorf of Metropolis; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Joann Williamson of Dowell; three brothers, Richard Rider of Du Quoin and Bob and Joe Rider, both of Christopher; several nephews and nieces; and countless friends.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Louis "Corkey" Rider, and one infant brother.
