Robert Chamness Obituary
Gail was born April 17, 1931, at Marion, the son of Walter and Edna Chamness.
He graduated from Cairo High School.
Gail married Patsy Jean McElya on July 5, 1952, in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
He was a longtime resident of Marion and Murphysboro, and retired truck driver in Southern Illinois who had a second career with Statco Engineering and Fabricators after moving to Southern California in the mid-1980s. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean conflict.
His hobbies included travel and mechanical and carpentry work. He was always helping someone with a project, and he devoted his life to taking care of his wife after she became ill. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Gail is survived by his wife, Pat Chamness of Hemet, Calif.; sons, Michael (Peggy) of Rochester, David (Belinda) of Warren, Ore., daugh-ter, Becky (George) of Stockton, Calif.; granddaughters Angela Chamness of Chicago, Cindy Fleck of Rochester, Sarah Chamness of Bea-verton, Ore., Stephanie Chamness of Warren, Ore., Edie Cardona of Stockton, Calif., Valerie Cardona of Stockton, Calif.; great-granddaughter, Jori Fleck of Rochester; brothers, Ben Chamness of Orange, Calif.; Ralph Chamness of Pleasant Hill, Calif., and Edward Chamness of Idyllwild, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.
Services will be Tuesday, June 14, 2011, in Riverside, Calif., and burial will be with military honors in the National Cemetery. A memorial service will be scheduled in Murphysboro at a later date.

Sorry to hear about Gail. I worked with him many years at the Gem Theatre in Cairo, along with another good friend who recently passed away, Bobby Joe Casey. Bill Johnson, Las Vegas

Note: Gail's visitation and service at Arlington Mortuary will be Tuesday, June 14th, at 9am and 10am, respectfully. Also, the burial at the Riverside National Cemetery will be the same day at 2:15 pm.
