SESSER -- Rosemary "Rose" Lunardon-Snedeker passed away at 5:58 a.m. Friday, Oct. 22, 2010, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Rosemary was born April 17, 1933, in Sesser to Frank and Mattia (Pesavento) Lunardon. She was a second generation Italian-¬American and she was a cancer survivor.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Ed Palmer of Sesser; her son, Russell Hill of Oregon; her granddaughter, Stephanie Byrns-Thompson of Tampa, Fla.; her grandson, Allen and Dana Byrns of Sesser; her grandson, Toby Byrns of Princeton, Ind.; her granddaughter, Tia Haught of Sesser; five great-grandchildren; her sister, Clara Waters of Portsmouth, Va.; her brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Patricia Lunardon of Dixon; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald "Turtle" Snedeker; her sisters, Irma Lunardon and Irene Johnson of Sesser; and her brothers Donald Lunardon of Rochelle and Eugene Lunardon of Sesser.
Rose traveled many years with Turtle around the country while he worked different mine construction jobs. She entertained and cooked many great meals in their little travel trailer for numerous friends and family members. She was famous (at least to us) for her delicious fried chicken and apple pie.
Rosemary worked a variety of jobs. She was a underground coal miner when it was uncommon for women to be working in the mines. She was also a waitress and her last job as a cook was at Bruno's restaurant in Sesser.
She was a generous, kind-hearted woman who enjoyed the company of family and friends. She was a friend to any stray cat or dog that happened her way.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
