Vadia West Obituary
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 12, in Blue Funeral Home in Marion with the Rev. Edward "Shorty" Alsip officiating. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 12, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes are available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, P.O. Box 411, Marion, IL 62959.
Vadia was born July 27, 1927, in Williamson County to Charles and Effie (Baker) Newton. She married Dean West in 1944 in Pensacola, Fla. He preceded her in death May 31, 1985, after 41 years of marriage.
Survivors include loving her loving son, Jack, and wife, Debbie West, of Marion; grandchildren, Jerry West and fiancé, Melissa Crites, both of Johnston City, Brian West of Marion, Amber Gordon and Adam Gordon, both of Paducah; great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Rebecca West, Steven West, Stephanie West and Westyn and Matanda Gordon and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Vadia was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Judy Gordon; son-in-law, Roger Gordon; sisters, Velma Hudgens, Grace Wallace, Jewel McCormick, Jenny Bell and Mary Alsip and brother, Raleigh Newton.
She was a past Matron of Eastern Star and a member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

Many years ago I became aquainted with your mother through Eastern Star activities as she was a real standout. I was a young member of Demolay back then. Jack, I know what its like to lose ones mother, hold on, it will not be easy but you can get through it.
