Paul Johnson Obituary

DU QUOIN -- Paul Johnson, 56, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Du Quoin, passed away Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, in Southeast Missouri Hospital.

Paul was born Jan. 23, 1955, to David Ivan and Maxine (Daily) Johnson in Du Quoin. He married Nancy Beatty of Mannington, W.V., on Jan. 16, 1982.

He was a police, fire and 911 dispatcher for 24 years in Cape Girardeau. He also was employed at Gospeland Bookstore in Carbondale and Cape Girardeau, and he had worked seven years for Du Quoin Evening Call.

Paul served one year on the Mission Service Corps through Southern Baptist Missions.

He is survived by his wife; daughter, Joy Lynn Johnson of Cape Girardeau; son, Josiah David Johnson of Cape Girardeau; three grandsons, Nathaniel, Zachary and Joshua; father, David Johnson of Du Quoin; mother-in-law, Polly Beatty of Mannington, W.V.; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends and colleagues.

He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Rebekkah Lynn-Anne Johnson; mother; and father-in-law, James Beatty of Mannington, W.V.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011, in La Croix United Methodist Church, 3102 Lexington Ave., in Cape Girardeau, with Pastor Fred Bishop officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011, at Crain Funeral Home, 829 N. West End Blvd., in Cape Girardeau and 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be made to the family to offset the cost of the funeral and will be accepted at the funeral home.
