Phil & Marie,
I am sorry for your loss. Rob was recognized here for many fine personal and personable traits.....and his many 'sensible & practical' approaches to energy efficiency....for that input, Rob will forever be remembered in this pursuit of 'green' and 'efficient' construction of all means. I have great respect for this fine man that I never met and am grateful to those folks here that confirmed my beliefs through their thoughts and prayers...Rob played a major and early role in what is now an international and ongoing pursuit....

As we just learned of Rob's passing, Marlynne and I hold your family in our hearts as you go thru this trying time. I hold dear the opportunities and memories of working with, learning from and getting to know Rob over many years both during and after my own years in the design industry. His generous spirit and unwavering commitment to improving building performance thru educating and encouraging others and by his own examples have been an inspiration to many of us who shared similar values. Rob was a gift to all of us in many different ways and his presence in our lives will long be remembered and cherished.

Phil, Marie and family,
My condolances to all of your family on Rob's passing.
I first met Rob at a conference shortly after I started working on energy conservation and energy management many years ago. He had the same significant impact on my work and thinking that many others have referred to here. I have talked to him on the phone from time to time as we worked here in Yukon on various energy-related topics. I was fortunate enough to meet him again at a conference in Alaska a few years ago. Rob was great and made a real difference to the world in general and to our lives in particular. He will be sorely missed.
(By the way, as part of my volunteer work, I and others are working on some cancer issues, including prevention, early detection and treatment. Much has happened. More needs to be done. There is reason for hope.)
- Doug -- a grieving colleague in Whitehorse Yukon

I met Rob in 1969 Nairobi when we were both in CUSO, and I've been a fan of his wit, warmth and wisdom ever since. He was our daughter's 'proxy' Godfather when Jennifer was born in Kenya and his life was an example any person, young or old, could admire. He was passionate about his environmental beliefs, passionate about his family, and a talented chronicler of family and personal history. All of his CUSO friends across the country will miss him. I certainly do, and want to wish Phil and Marie solace and sympathy as they deal with their loss.

I first met a Dumont in September 1963, Norman, in grade one at Vancouver College. It wasn't until 2003 that I was, finally, been introduced to the last of these 12 kids, and that was Robert. We had pizza in Kerrisdale area of Vancouver. I met him again at the Vancouver College home coming football game in October of 2013, we spoke again. I didn't realize when earlier that same year he was honoured at a VC banquet. So, here is a guy that I have spoken to exactly twice, and what an impact he made!
Dumonts are like that.
I should know, I have met all 12 of them.
God our Father,
Your power brings us to birth,
Your providence guides our lives,
and by Your command we return to dust.
Lord, those who die still live in Your presence,
their lives change but do not end.
I pray in hope for my family,
relatives and friends,
and for all the dead known to You alone.
In company with Christ,
Who died and now lives,
may they rejoice in Your kingdom,
where all our tears are wiped away.
Unite us together again in one family,
to sing Your praise forever and ever.
Amen.

Rob and I worked on numerous construction projects over many years. It was always fun. Most memorable In1986 we built NorthAmericas Most energy efficient home.
Rob had hundreds of quotes and sayings he would use on any given day
One of my favourite;
Ah, to build, to build!
That is the noblest art of all the arts. Painting and sculpture are but images, are merely shadows cast by outward things on stone or canvas, having in themselves no separate existence. Architecture, existing in itself, and not in seeming a something it is not, surpasses them as substance shadow.
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Rob quoted this line by Dylan Tomas many times
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Thank you for all the good memories and projects. I better friend I would not find..

Rob Dumont was learned man who brought clear thinking practical solutions to the rough and tumble residential construction industry. Thank you for sharing your time with me personally Rob and with the HVAC industry through your presentations to our association TECA here in Vancouver

Dear Phil and Marie,
I am so sad to hear of the passing of Rob. I always feel very lucky to know Rob and have opportunities to learn from him in the past several years. Rob was always very generous when I asked him for his advice and comments about a couple of our research projects. I am always amazed about the passion and knowledge Rob had for housing technology and energy conservation. It seems to me Rob never stopped working. May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief.

Phil and Marie - I am sorry for your loss. I had the great honour and pleasure of working with Rob for 15 years and I deeply appreciated his technical prowess for which he was widely renowned. But more than that, I appreciated his knowledge and many interests in the wider world which he shared with us in his trademark quiet, unassuming and reassuring manner. He was a true renaissance man and always the smartest person in the room (although he would never admit it). He will be missed.

To Phil and Marie, I am sorry to hear of your loss. I was one of the neighbourhood kids who knew Rob for many years in the 80's, during the time that Phil and Rob met. It was common for us to invade the house on 2nd ave and visit or Rob would pile about 6 of us children onto his blue ten speed and tour us all around town. I remember he always had CBC radio on in the house and I thought it was strange he didnt have a TV. As an adult, I look back and see he was a man with charecter and love to share for everyone and really knew how to find joy in the simple things. The world is always left a better place when people like Rob leave there mark with us. I hope you find peace and comfort during this time.

My deepest sympathies to you and your family.
Rob's depth of knowledge, his insights, and his caring, gentle and thoughtful manner were truly inspirational. His pioneering work and ideas shared so freely with others in the housing world has had a great impact on the quality of life of many - perhaps particularly so here in the Yukon. We too will miss him dearly.

Dear Phil, Marie and family, our hearts ache for you with Rob's passing. Over the years, I have been privileged to hear the many stories of Rob and Rick's shared passion for energy conservation and housing technology development. He was a highly learned and intelligent man, with a grace and understanding of the human spirit and condition. Forever curious and deeply loving of family, I was delighted when he shared with us the legacy piece he has left his family - the history of the Dumont family; undoubtedly, a treasure that will be cherished by all the generations to come. He was so very proud of his family, and his eyes always twinkled when he shared a story of an adventure shared with you. May you feel comforted by the breadth and depth of the respect and caring for Rob, his legacy, and the important teachings he has left us all. Know you are embraced by deep caring and support.

Rob sincerely cared about people and ideas. This was so evident that those who worked with him came to rely upon him for his measured council. We would all turn to him confident that he would provide even handed judgement. This he did with humour and good will. He was self-effacing, moral and courageous. He is deeply missed by all of those fortunate enough to have know him. The energy conservation community has lost a greatly loved champion. Peace.

My sincere condolences to Phil, Marie and the Dumont Family
Rob is a true inspiration. Often quiet and unassuming, he was always the go to person in any room for thoughtful and careful consideration of key housing issues and solutions with the goal to improve the health and well being of all. His kind demeanour, pursuit of excellence and extensive knowledge were gifts he freely shared, and will continue on in all of us that he touched. Thank you Rob.

Dear Dumont Family,
Please accept our prayers and our deepest sympathy. He truly was a visionary, pioneer and leader in housing energy efficiency research, innovation and practical demonstrations. He pioneered the idea of Factor 9 home which is now corner stone for net-zero energy housing in Canada. It is great to know such a noble man steeped in excellence all around. Grateful to him for the professional connection over the years. Will certainly miss his every ready technical advice.

My brother Robert was a very special person to me. As my older brother and a very intelligent guy I looked up to Rob and while we didn't always share the same political views I always enjoyed and respected his opinions and ideas about how to solve the world's problems. Part of my motivation for serving with CUSO as a volunteer in Malaysia was from Rob and his service in Kenya. Robert was a respected global leader in his field and he did make a difference in this world. Along with keeping our family connected through biannual newsletters to his excellent historical documentation of the family and all our descendants Rob provided great leadership and a contributed to a strong sense of family. He leaves a great legacy in his daughter Marie and many thanks for bringing a very special person into our family - Phil! We shall all miss him. RIP dear brother.

Dear Phil & Family:
Our deep condolences on your loss. While it is heaven's gain, it was really too soon for the world to lose a man like Rob. A loving family man, friend and colleague. Rob's dedication and contributions in the area of building energy efficiency were internationally recognized, He also truly lived what he believed.
I fondly recall our many trips into the northern United States where we were "spreading the word" on building energy efficiency. I would give the overview and introductory stuff, Rob gave the real meat of the presentations. He had a very solid and down to earth grasp of concepts which was always appreciated by the audience. Certainly his work will live on.
We regret that we have a family event in Ontario and have to miss his funeral.
