Helene Goldak Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Aug. 21 to Aug. 22, 2006.
GOLDAK -Helene (nee Helen Hulda Erna Kalkkuhl) was born March 18, 1907 in Herne, Westphalia, Germany. She passed away peacefully Sunday, August 6, 2006 at the age of 99 at the Senior Citizen's Home in Langham, SK. Her smile and sense of fun never left her even on her last day. Left to mourn are her daughters, Maia (Gerda) Penfold, Leslie G. Clapson (Lorne); and her son, John A. Goldak (Sharon); her daughterin-law and very dear friend, Mary Goldak; grandchildren, Larry Penfold, Ben Goldak, Shawn Goldak, Laurie Tremblay, David Goldak, David Clapson, Patricia Dunlop, Susan Rehman, Jerri-Lynn Morrison, Tara Goldak, Deanna Marie Goldak; and 19 great-grandchildren. Her husband Johann Papa Goldak; son, George Robert Goldak; and granddaughter, Karen Clapson predeceased her. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Johannes and Ernst; as well as her sister Anna. Helene married Johann in the year 1927. They immigrated to Canada when she was 22 and lived in Prince Albert, SK from 1930 to 1942. The family lived nearby Spruce Home from 1942 until 1945 when they moved back to Prince Albert. In 1956 she and Johann retired to Parksville, BC where they lived together until Johann's passing in 1974. Helene remained in Parksville until 1989 when she moved to Langham to be closer to family. Helene was a woman of remarkable intellect and spirit, and had a thirst for knowledge. Upon arriving in Prince Albert, she taught herself English by reading the Western Producer. Those who knew her will remember her passion and expertise for decorative gardening and intricate needlework. She won numerous awards for her beautiful yard and garden in Prince Albert. Helene had a remarkable ability to sew beautiful clothing and create stuffed animals without a pattern and on a moments notice. The education and welfare of her children was always paramount to her. She was widely read and had a sharp mind and clear memory to the very end. She had a deep and abiding faith and loved to read the Bible. A Memorial Service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 339 Fairmont Drive in Saskatoon, on Wednesday, August 23, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. Condolences may be sent to Box 54, Langham, SK, and contributions, if so desired: to the charity of your choice
