Lynne DONNELLY Obituary

Published by Saskatoon StarPhoenix from May 3 to May 4, 2013.
Lynne Donnelly
October 19, 1940 - May 2, 2013
It is with shock and great sadness that we said goodbye to Lynne on Thursday, May 2nd at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. Left to grieve her are her husband, Bob McLeod; her beloved dog Colby; her daughter Maureen (Kim) Morrison; her grandchildren Shane and Rhea Morrison; her daughter Shannon (Kevin) Slade; her step-daughter Vikki (Les) Currie; her grandchildren Nicole (Ward) Reed; Graeme Currie and Glen Currie; her step- daughter Tracey (Jacques) Delorme; and her grandchildren Braedon, Mathieu, and Jenaya Delorme; her mother Lorraine Hawksworth; her sister Gale/Petey (Frank) Fidyk and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and a wide, wide circle of friends. She started her working life as a registered nurse, and retired years later as a parole officer with the federal government: in between she raised her kids, worked alongside her first husband Dave in a variety of businesses, did administration, office work and got her social work degree while working full time! She was industrious and determined and always up for a challenge. Everywhere Lynne went she gathered people from all walks of life with her warmth and enthusiasm. Neighbours and friends both here in Saskatoon and at the cabin at Emma Lake; her bridge buddies; fellow graduates from her nursing school; other fitness enthusiasts who met with her regularly at the Lakewood Civic Centre; and as she travelled on her spiritual journey many, many kindred spirits. She had close friends she loved in her weekly bridge club; it was her passion to keep her brain smart and strong and she found allies in this group of women. More than that she found laughter, comaraderie and support, she loved those women and valued their time together. Lynne and Bob had recently returned from a trip to the states to view the pre-built home they are having placed at the Lake. It was their plan to spend their summers enjoying lake life in their dream home and snow-birding down south each winter and they were very excited about it. The future was bright and hopeful and we are so sad those plans have changed. Lynne loved reading and learning. She read voraciously and she spent many happy hours at her favourite bookstore McNally Robinson. She was bright, enthusiastic, loving, fun, engaging, she embraced life and loved unconditionally...what more can we say? We will be honouring her life and saying goodbye on Monday, May 6th at Lawson Heights Alliance Church at 10:30 a.m. Please join us; there will be an opportunity to share your thoughts and memories of Lynne during the service. The family wishes to thank the fantastic first responders from the Saskatoon Fire Department and EMS and the Royal University Hospital Neurology Unit and Unit 6200 for the compassionate care. Donations may be given on Lynne's behalf to McLeod House - a non-profit addictions center for men. Email condolences may be sent to [email protected]. Arrangements are entrusted to Saskatoon Funeral Home. Ph 306-244-5577.

I was so sorry to hear of Lynne's passing. We weren't close but we shared an ex husband and she tried to help me through some tough times. And then she listened with her big heart while I cried when my daughter passed away. My heart goes out to all those people who are going to miss her greatly. Now you know where Dave is for sure, and I only know where you are.

Dear Bob and families,
We were very shocked to hear of Lynn's passing. We had discussed your retirement to Emma at the CUMFI Christmas party and that you'd be right across the lake from my sister. Please know that you are in our thoughts and are close to our hearts.

Jerry and I are so sad to learn of Lynne's sudden passing. She left behind a world much better for her having been here, but her loss will be a burden for those who knew her. We won't soon forget her smile and infectious laugh.

I am so sorry to hear of Lynne's passing. We worked together for many years at RPC. She was a bright and charismatic woman who wasn't afraid to make her views known. It is so sad that she and Bob won't be able to enjoy the retirement they earned, together.
