the deepest Condoleances to the family, for the tragic unbridgeable loss of this brilliant young hockey player
Sue Russell
April 12, 2019
It is hard to believe it has been a yr already, my deepest love, and prayers to your family. I did not know Jacob, but just by hearing stories of him, and looking at pictures, I feel like I've known him for so long. I will never know what you are going through as I have not been through it myself. I almost lost my Son 20 yrs ago and that was bad enough for me, my heart goes out to you and Humboldt will forever be on my mind as all 3 of my Sons live in Saskatchewan. We have hockey sticks still standing at the doors in some Toronto residences. God Bless you and your family and know he is always watching over you.

Dear Jacob's family We will forever remember the HST, it is like the 9/11, JFK, day remembering where and what we were doing on that tragic day; may JACOB's shining, bright star shine on you each and every day; may you feel my caring, kind thoughts, and love across the miles; JACOB's life should be celebrated, for his presence always to be felt, especially, thru hockey, birds singing, sunsets, and his star; sharing with the world is amazing of you and the whole team, how you have shared your son, JACOB, your address at the anniversary was truly moving, the parent's of these young men are an example of true functioning families, it speaks volumes of how you care; we will never forget the huge loss of such amazing young people, even the coaches, whose lives were lost, carry a big impact on all hockey players, and their families in the world; JACOB is caring for you, all; his life's job is done; his heavenly one has just started; he will be playing a heavenly hockey game with those strong teammates up there; hockey
hugs to you and yours, Gail (Allen) Blain

Dear Leicht family,
It's been a little over a year since your sweet boy Jacob died. Please know that I think of your Jacob, his teammates, & their families every day. I cannot imagine how this year has been for you all. Jacob sounded like a real sweetheart!
I ran several Half Marathons wearing my Humboldt Broncos shirt to honour all involved. The first one - the Winnipeg Police Half Marathon - was the hardest. I was bawling when I crossed the finish line. Looked at the sky and sent all Broncos some love. Each time.
I send you all love and wishes of healing and peace. I know things will never be the same, but I hope things get better for you in time.
Please know I will never forget your son, Jacob, nor his fellow teammates.
Take good care
PS - I wore #11 as a kid, too!

I loved watching Jacob play hockey over the years. He was the smallest player on the ice, but boy he could skate faster and harder than anyone else on the ice. I'm so lucky to have met him and to have graduated with such an amazing guy. I'll miss our constant humorous bickering with each other over anything and everything. We miss you so much #11.

Leicht Family,
I am sending my deepest condolences, love, and prayers to your family. I did not know Jacob, but just by hearing stories of him, and looking at pictures, I feel like I've known him for so long. However I do know some people who did. And he truly was a light in their lives. he has touched so many people. Saskatchewan is such a tight community, and we will be here for you. He will be remembered for as long as we live. He will live on in the hearts of so many people. My thoughts are with you. I will not stop praying for you. I will love you forever.

I'm certain I haven't signed your condolence book so I apologize if i signed it twice. So many.
I was deeply moved by your story in hockey news, I also believe that some kind of movement will come of all of this. Thank you for being open at a time of private grief. I'm so glad you can feel Jacob around you.
To your family I offer my sincerest condolences. My brother played hockey and I've been on a bus many times. May a warm blanket of human kindness always comfort you with Jacob always at your side.
Condolences from Victoria, B.C.

My thoughts are with you all. I have not stopped thinking about your son, all his team mates and families who are suffering from such a tragic loss. In time may you find some peace and may the smiles return to replace the sadness in all of your hearts. The hockey community is tight and I know they will help you through this horrible time. Jason sounded like a terrific young man. He will live on in your hearts and memories that no one can take away. He will be remembered , always, by me and many, many people across this country and across the globe, as one of those Humboldt Broncos boys. He left this world too soon but he will always be somewhere around you, forever, until you meet again. You will meet again.

"I can only Imagine" what Jacob is doing in heaven right now. One thing for sure he was chanting along at his funeral... which was a beautiful tribute, and is cheering you guys on to finish the race strong. He loves you and is watching over you every minute, I know that full well. Know you are being prayed for daily because the pain will be there daily. It sounds like you raised an amazing young man, and his mission even before he was born was to change the world. Sending much love your way from Edmonton, AB.

I am a hockey grandma from Chatham ON and they call me G-Ma. My grandson who just turned 16 last week has played travel hockey since he was six and he personally scored the goal for the win of the OMHA trophy a couple of years ago, so I understand definitely what a hockey family is all about. I just wanted to give you my condolences and to let you know we in Chatham also have our hockey sticks at our doors as this tragedy has hit all of our hockey families here also. Derek Whitson who is on the Paralympic sled hockey team is one of ours. May you know that so many of our hockey hearts are with you also your loss is the hockey world's loss. May you find peace and serenity soon. Just know Jacob is in a better place.

I did not know Jacob or his family but as a former minor hockey coach in Victoria, B.C. & travelled on many buses, the tragedy that took the young life of Jacob & his teammates, hits home. My sincere condolences to the family and know that Jacob is at peace and pain free. Treasure, always, the memories that allowed Jacob's family, friends and teammates to have him in their lives. They are the better for knowing him. Jacob, always a BRONCO!! RIP

While the loss of a loved one is never easy, even when anticipated, it is most certainly the hardest when they are taken from us too soon.
Losing Jacob who has left us at such a youthful age is definitely in the category of those hard losses for which there is so painful a reminder of what might have been.
I offer my sincere condolence and deepest sympathy on your loss. May the outpouring of sympathy, the kind acts of friends and strangers and the comfort in knowing that your loss is felt by many, help you through this difficult time.
May you find the courage and strength to move forward in peace and confidence and in knowing that his was a life well-lived.
I will ask God's blessings on you and your wonderful family.

"Subject: Jersey Day - Thursday, April 12
Dear SCELS Families,
We are all saddened by the recent and heartbreaking tragedy in Saskatchewan. One of our Grade One students, Luke, has brought forward a way for the SCELS community to help support the families affected. On Thursday April 12th we will be participating in Jersey Day' which is a campaign that will take place across Canada, the US and even around the world. Thursday will be a non-uniform day - students can wear their favourite team jersey or wear green and gold in support of the Humboldt Broncos. We are asking each student to please bring in a toonie (or more) for the GoFundMe campaign so we can help support these devastated families in any way that we can. With the children, we will be discussing how SCELS can help show our caring spirit and support of a team in need of some help.
The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members- Coretta Scott King
