John PICKETTS Obituary
January 3, 1936 - September 13, 2013
It is with great sadness that the family of John "Jack" Picketts announces his passing on Friday, September 13, 2013 at the age of 77 years. He will be deeply missed by his devoted wife, Liz Picketts; children: Anne (Mark) Summach, Brenda (Jeremy) Picketts, Jacqueline Picketts, Valerie (Leif) Picketts and Murray (Kathy) Picketts; grandchildren: Blaise Picketts, Chelsey (Mark) Hendrickson, Dusty Magnussen, Courtney Summach, Rosalyn Summach, Damien Picketts- Wheatley, Callie Picketts, Brandon Picketts and Bjorn Picketts-Hande; great- grandchildren: Ashton Rhodes and Xavier Picketts; brother, Keith (Jean) Picketts and their family. Jack was born as the eldest son to Harold and Thelma Picketts on January 3, 1936, and attended school at Eagle Home School in the Asquith District and later Asquith School. Jack started farming by renting land in the Asquith district at age 18 while still in high school. In 1957 he met Elizabeth "Liz" Picketts, a teacher at Asquith School, and was married in 1959. Jack and Liz Picketts raised five children and spent almost 55 years farming together. Jack's passion in life was farming and with his hard work and the support of his family he built up the family farm. At the time of his death he along with his wife Liz, son Murray and wife Kathy farmed many acres in the Asquith and Perdue District. Although Jack was often serious and focused on work, he also very much enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Jack always supported community activities and gave generously to charities and community fund-raisers. He belonged to the Masons and the Elks in Asquith. Jack was known for his strong work ethic and honesty. He was also a devoted family man and always looked forward to visits from his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A Service of Remembrance will be held at Asquith United Church on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. and lunch to follow at Asquith Elks Hall. Memorial donations to either the Asquith United Church or the charity of your choice would be appreciated in living memory of Jack. Condolences may be sent to [email protected]. I only met Jack after his return from Australia this spring, but I was touched deeply by his friendly manner. He was a gentleman to his core and he will be sadly missed by all who came in contact with him. My deepest sympathy to the family at this time.
