SHIRLEY FRIESEN Obituary
Shirley passed away on Friday, May 15, 2015 at St. Paul's Hospital. She was born January 7, 1937 in Saskatoon, SK when the family lived on a farm near Eagle Creek. The family moved to Asquith where she attended school. She was baptised in the Asquith Baptist Church and was a lifetime member. Dale and Shirley met in Asquith and were married for 54 years. They had 3 children Colleen, Les and Todd. She was a terrific baker, enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles. She loved babysitting her grandchildren and watching baseball, especially her beloved Yankees. Shirley was predeceased by her parents Gordon and Nancy Rice; her stepmother Doris; two sons Les and Todd; grandson Jesse; and brother Arthur. She is lovingly remembered by her husband Dale; daughter Colleen (John) Tebay, their children Leighton (Carol), Derek (Heather); daughter-in-law Charmain (Todd's wife), their children Justin (Louann) and Cory. Her brothers and sisters Ken (Dot), Arthur's wife Donna, Keith, Denny (Sharon), Lynne Davidson (Woody), Barry (Peggy), Janice Rawlyk (Brad); and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A special thank you to St. Paul's Palliative Care Unit. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at Park Funeral Chapel, 311 Third Avenue North, Saskatoon, officiated by Joan Brown. A Private Family Interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Parkridge Centre would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Kari Peters, Park Funeral Chapel, 306.244.2103.

As I've been reflecting upon the loss of our much beloved Aunty Shirley, or Aunty Foo as she always was and is to me, I'm a little stunned when I add up of the years of her life that Shirley spent helping to raise all of us nephews & nieces & grandchildren, and how we were all so enriched by the time, and love, and devotion she gave to all of us. I never got away from a family gathering without a hug and a kiss on the cheek from Aunty Shirl, bless her for it. I'll always remember with a laugh her giving Todd heck for one thing or another, and with love her patience and tremendous strength through all of Les' struggles. As much as she could be a strong, commanding presence, the thing that touches me the most in our loss is how much love she gave to everyone. Love, and scalloped potatoes.
My sympathies to Dale, Colleen & John, Charmain, and everyone else in grief and loss.

Shirley was one of my favorite patients. I always looked forward to seeing her on my list for the day. I know she missed her boys and grandson tremendously and I'm certain that she has them wrapped in her arms right now. My deepest condolences to her family on losing someone so special.

Dale and family,
We are so saddened to hear of Shirley's passing. Though I believe Shirley is rejoicing as she reunites with so many loved ones in heaven, there is a still a hole left here as we grieve and miss her. Shirley and I had a special connection. I remember bringing the kids over with cookies and homemade cards when Les died. I will not forget her. Prayers of comfort go to your family.
