Jerry Watson Obituary

Jerry Samuel "Buck" Watson Sr. COLUMBIA - Jerry Samuel (Buck) Watson, Sr., 93, of Columbia, passed away on October 8, 2012. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 13, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Columbia, conducted by the Rev. Phillip L. Webster, II, with burial following in the church memorial garden. The family will receive friends and family afterwards at a reception in the church Parish Hall. Buck was born in Whitmire, SC, son of the late William Rogers Watson and Frances Elmyra Aughtry Watson. He was a long-time member of St. John's United Methodist Church, Columbia, where he was a lay leader and a Sunday School teacher for over 50 years, and recently of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Columbia. He was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Virginia (Jennie) Osborne Watson, and his seven brothers and sisters, Roger, Robert, Herbert, Ance, Ida, Hilda, and Marjorie. He is survived by his daughter, Jerva W. Applegate (Rusty); his son, Jerry S. Watson, Jr. (Renee); his granddaughters, Corey A. Lombardo (Anthony), Amanda A. Applegate, Sterling B. Watson, Ashleigh R. Watson; his grandsons, Jerry S. (Jes) Watson, III, and William A. (Tripp) Laursen; and his great-grandchildren, Nicholas Lombardo, Anna Lombardo, Gavin Nix, and Camden Closen, and his many nieces and nephews. Buck loved hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. He was a Captain in the Air Force, serving during World War II as a procurement officer for parts on the B-29 bombers. He had retired from Sealy of the Carolinas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice. Expressions of sympathy for the Watson family may be left at www.southcarolinacremation.com
