So sorry to hear of his passing. He will be missed. I remember my first visit to the obgyn was with him. He told me to just pretend I was at the beach. It helped as a young woman but as I got older I joked with him about that and told him it wasn't a beach trip. He laughed. He always took care if me and I will always remember his kindness and warmth. I will miss you. I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers.

When my husband and I first moved to Columbia 28 years ago, I had the good fortune of becoming a patient of Dr. Reed. A very difficult pregnacy would soon follow, and Dr. Reed made multiple housecalls to our home in Horrell Hill before and after work. We named our son in his honor and will forever hold dear his memory. That son is now a physician, and it is our hope that he will mean as much to others as Dr. Stanmore Reed has meant to us!

Dr. Reed was my OB for more than 30 years. He was a wonderful.loving.caring doctor. When you walked into his office and he closed the door to talk with you after your exam it was like you were the only patient he had. When he retired i knew i would miss him very much. Thank goodness his sweet daughter,Julie, was there so that my mom and I could start seeing her and i could keep up with how he and his sweet wife were doing through her. i will truly miss this sweet, loving, humble man. This world has lost a wonderful human being, but heaven has gained an Angel. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to his sweet wife and children.

God Bless You All.

We first met Stanley in 1967 when my wife assisted him in setting up his practice in the Rosewood area. We attended church with him at Rosewood Baptist. He became our doctor for the time he remained in private practice. We found Stanley to be a warm, personable, intelligent doctor who cared immensely about his patients. While it has been 44 years since we have seen him, reading of his passing has saddened us. He certainly impacted our lives as a young physician. We want the family to know that we thought of him as a wonderful doctor, friend and human being. Our sympathies are with you.

Dr. Reed was my doctor for more yrs. than I can count. He had the most compassion of any Dr. I've ever seen. God lead me to him to find out why I couldn't have children. Within 3 months I was pregnant!! Dr. Reed delivered my 2 boys and he was the most precious caring Dr., man, person that has ever taken care of a human being. I'm so proud to call him MY FRIEND AND DOCTOR. He will be missed and there will never be another one like him!! What a Godly man!! He will recieve his crowns in heaven for sure!!

I was in the choir at Rosewood Baptist Church with Stan. His one wish in life was to be a physician, and God saw to it that he fulfilled his dreams. He was such an inspiration. Many years ago, he was my OB/GYN, and I had to have minor surgery. In the operating room, prior to my being fully anesthetized, I could hear Stan singing and telling jokes. He was one of the happiest people I have ever known. May God Bless and Keep his family. Donna Dedmond McCullough (Columbia, SC)

Stan was a comfort during three complicated pregnancies. He always had a smile on his face and time to sit down and discuss anything that was of importance to me. Every time I see African Violets, I think about that credenza in his office where he had so many beautiful flowers. Prayers to his family. He will truly be missed.

I was deeply sadened to hear of Dr. Reeds passing. He was such an important part of the Steele family women for such a long time. If I am not mistaken, I believe my brother and I were one of the first set of twins he delivered. He also assisted Dr. Julie with the delivery of my own twins in 2004. Here is a funny story I must share, After 10 hours of waiting on my first child to enter this world, Dr. Reed came in my room and told me if I didn't hurry up and deliver I was going to have to see another doctor. I told him OH NO, it was almost 5pm and I wasn't seeing another doctor. He was going to deliver my baby. When Ethan was born he had a head full of hair. I told Dr. Reed it was such a shame that even babies had more hair than he did! We laughed for quite a while.
His humor and excellent bedside manor will be deeply missed.
My thoughts and prayers are with all of Dr. Reed's family.

Dr. Reed you will always be remembered as a distinguished doctor, who brought so much to many lives. You were my doctor in 1974. Now your most respected daughter, Dr. Julie was a part of my grand daughter being brought into this world in October 2010. Julie I am Heather Shuler's mother. I had the pleasure of meeting you last October and as many have done I shared my wonderful experience of being a patient of your daddy's. My heart and prayers are with all of you. This came as a real shock to me.

Dr. Reed was a humble and caring physician. A scared 19 yr old young lady "labored" for many hours. The survival of both, mother and unborn child, were grim. Dr. Reed performed an emergency c-section. He saved two lives that day in September (1973). It is because of Dr. Reed, my mom and I are here today.
Many thanks to his wife and family for understanding the many sacrifices he made while being a husband, a daddy
and a physician. He will be greatly missed.

Our world was made better by having Dr. Reed in it. My sincerest condolences to his family during the sorrowful time. I know the God can give comfort. It was such an encouragement and uplift when I saw him sometimes daily and I would ask him how he was he would always reply "better than I deserve" and smile. If you were down that lifted you up. It is comforting to know that when he closed his eyes the final time he opened them for the first time on the other side of Jordan and saw the Face of Jesus. Again my deepest sympathy

I was deeply saddened when I learned about Dr. Reed’s passing. Please accept my heartfelt sympathies for your loss.
Dr. Reed was a special person indeed; He was my mom’s doctor for many years and was the OB/GYN for my birth. Years later, he became my doctor and brought my son into the world, May 1999. I still remember being in his exam room when my Mom asked him “How he felt delivering a baby of one he had delivered years before?” He just smiled and told me, “Now I told you not to bring her in here again (as he laughed).” We both knew he had such a great sense of humor. My other favorite was being in Dr. Reed’s office calling my dad to tell him that I was having a boy. My dad said then, “About d@#% time in this girl producing family.” With Dr. Reed laughing, it was a priceless reaction when we told my dad he was on a speaker and he said, “Oh sorry.”
Dr. Reed made you feel at ease because he made you feel like family. He was a great doctor to have and I feel blessed to have had him as my doctor from my birth to the birth of my son until his retirement. Heaven has a remarkable angel now!

Today when I was told of Dr. Reed's passing I felt stunned and sad. Dr. Reed was not only my ob/gyn but my mom's and my sisters' as well. I remember how he and Barbara always made me feel at ease when I visited the office. Dr. Reed delivered my children. Another sad day was the day he retired from practicing medicine, but what a blessing when Dr. Julie Reed continued in her father's practice with the same type of bedside manner. My thoughts and prayers are with his family during their time of sorrow. God has truly taken home a "great physician".

Dr. Reed was a wonderful, compassionate doctor. I will remember forever seeing him actually running and hitting the doors at Baptist Hospital when he was called to the ER due to my having a sudden miscarriage. He was genuinely concerned about me and comforted me during a difficult time. He subsequently delivered my daughter 38 years ago AND my two grandchildren, one of whom is named after him. I was saddened to hear of his death but I know he was a committed Christian and we will see him again. To his children, look under the bottom of some of the furniture he made for you, there is a note there for you from him. He loved you all dearly.

Dr. Reed was my Moms Dr. when I was just a little girl. He became my Dr. when I was 2 years old as well. We both saw Dr. Reed until he went off to become a gynecologist. After he graduated, I was by then, at the age to start seeing a gyn. How lucky I was. Mom and I started back as soon as he opened his practice.Like all his other patients, we Loved Dr. Reed. He is the only Dr. that I have ever visited that, you not only got your examination but you also were entertained with his singing. LOL. His bed side manners were the best. He was a kind, gental wonderful man & Dr. God sure has a Great angel in heaven now. Dr. Reed delivered my brother in 72, my daughter in 82, my son in 94, my nephew in 98 and my niece in 99. Mom & I saw Dr. Reed until he retired. She past away August 7, 2009.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the Reed family. May God hold you in his arms and comfort you as you go through this tough time. He will be missed dearly and always be loved and never forgotten by so many of us that he touched. Not only as a physician but as a wonderful person who loved life, his family, his patients and God. Rest in Peace Dr. Reed. You will be missed.

Stanley and I were close friends at Rosewood Baptist and Dreher High School and USC. We shared a lot of fun and fellowship through the years but most of all we were and are brothers in Christ. From early on he decided to let Christ reveal Himself through his life.
Heaven is sweeter today and Stanley sees Jesus face on.
It was Christ that made Stanley a great man and Christ who will comfort and minister to his precious family.
