John Tucker Obituary

Dr. John Wesley Tucker, Sr. AIKEN Dr. John Wesley Tucker Sr., 79, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2016 surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM at St. John's United Methodist Church, Saturday, December 17, 2016 with the Rev. Dr. Timothy McClendon officiating. The family will receive friends in Ward Hall following the service. Internment will be private. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Patrick Sheehan, Dr. William Boykin, Mr. John Epps, Mr. Ash Milner III, Mr. Wilford Swygert and Mr. O'Neal Sanders, the Aiken County Dental Society and Old Towne Hunt Club. Dr. Tucker was born in Johnston, SC to the late Elliott Wannamaker Tucker, Sr. and the late Emile Lightsey Tucker. He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Shealy Tucker; daughters, Carolyn Rose Tucker, Conyers, GA, Emile Tucker (Bo) Crenshaw, Aiken; sons, John Wesley (Lisa) Tucker, Jr., Aiken, Perry Shealy (Vicky) Tucker; grandchildren, Elizabeth Grace (Logan) Stehling, William Iverson Hunnicutt, Elliott Alexander Hunnicutt, Elizabeth Lee Tucker, John Wesley Tucker III, Carolyn Rose Tucker, Jackson Shealy Tucker, Lagree James Tucker, James Brown Crenshaw III, Tucker Lagree Crenshaw, John Ryland Crenshaw; and a sister, Emile Tucker Rodwell, Aiken and 12 beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Dr. Tucker was preceded in death by a grandson, Maxwell Tucker Hunnicutt and a brother, Dr. Elliott Wanamaker Tucker Jr. and a nephew Elliott Wannamaker Tucker III. Dr. Tucker was a graduate of the University of South Carolina and finished dental school at the University of Alabama. He then served in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Benning, Ga. After serving his country he received his masters in orthodontics from Georgetown University. He settled in Aiken, S.C. in 1967, where he practiced orthodontics until he retired in 2001. He was a past president of the Aiken County Dental Society, the Central District Dental Association, and of the South Carolina Association of orthodontics. He was a lifelong member of the South Carolina Dental Association, Southern Association of Orthodontics, the American Dental Association and the American Association of Orthodontics. He was a lifelong member of the Gamecock Club and Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. The family would like to thank his caregivers, Rosemary Hicks, Diane Jackson and Pat Christian for years of loving service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. John's United Methodist Church, 104 Newberry St NW, Aiken, SC 29801.
