Curtis Earl Guinn of Fort Mill, S.C., passed away Sunday, December 4, 2011, at his home, surrounded by his family and loved ones.
He was born to the late Jeter and Bessie Guinn March 26, 1930, in Camden, S.C. Curtis attended Camden High School and joined the United States Navy in 1947. He subsequently joined the United States Army and the South Carolina National Guard and retired after 33 years of service. He received a B.S. in business management from Limestone College in 1985. He married Alise "Jackie" Baker in 1952, in Camden, S.C.
Curtis was employed by the DuPont Company in Camden, and in Seaford, Del., until he retired in 1985. He was devoted to his family, his church and his country. He was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He and his wife served three full-time missions for the Church in Ireland, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Pineville, N.C.
Curtis is survived by Jackie, his eternal companion and devoted wife of 59 years, and two children: David Guinn and partner, Fred Friedman, of Asheville, N.C., and Cheryl Guinn Le Roy and husband, Steven Le Roy, of Fort Mill. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Blakeley Smart and husband, Craig Smart, of Cedar Park, Texas, Lauren Cobb and husband, Chris Cobb, of Concord, N.C., Curtis Le Roy and Anna Smith of Newport, N.C., Mark Le Roy of Fort Mill; and seven great-grandchildren: Preston and Payton Smart of Cedar Park, Texas, Baker, Owen, Camden and Brody Cobb of Concord, N.C., and Gwendolyn Le Roy of Newport, N.C. He is also survived by three brothers: Chick Guinn and Bill Guinn of Camden, and Gilbert Guinn of Greenwood, S.C.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mark Steven, and three brothers: Jack Guinn, Gail Guinn and Ivan Guinn.
