Marvin Pruden Obituary

Marvin Henry Pruden NEWARK, DEL. Mr. Marvin Henry Pruden, age 97, of Newark, DE, formerly of Camden, SC, passed away on May 30, 2012, at Millcroft Health Care Center. Born in North Hampton County, NC on December 9, 1914, Mr. Pruden was the son of the late Silas Berry Pruden and Ollie Otis Hasty Pruden. He made his career with the DuPont Company, where he retired as a supervisor in 1976 after 46 years of service. Following his retirement, he accepted an associate position with the Kornegay Funeral Home in Camden and would continue to work for another 20 years. Active in his community, Mr. Pruden was a former member and past secretary of the Camden Lions Club, a past member of the Board of Trustees of Kershaw County Memorial Hospital, and the co-founder and first president of the May Plant Credit Union in Camden. He was a lifelong member of the Masonic order and was affiliated with Camden Masonic Lodge #29 AFM; he later helped establish Lugoff Lodge #11 AFM and served as a lodge secretary. Mr. Pruden was a former member of the Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church in Camden and held many church leadership offices. After moving to Delaware, he became a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Newark in 2004. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 73 years, Doris Miller Pruden, a sister, Louise Woodcock, and four brothers, Raymond William, Joseph Carl, John Edward, and Silas Berry Pruden, Jr. He is survived by his son, Donald Marvin Pruden and his wife, Caroline Brooks Williams Pruden of Wilmington, DE; his grandson, Scott Berry Pruden and his wife, Kelly Howe Pruden, of West Chester, PA: his granddaughter, Caroline Pruden Janney and her husband, David Richard Janney, of Newark, DE; his great grandson, Andrew Scott Pruden of West Chester, PA; his great granddaughter, Kathryn Rose Pruden of West Chester, PA; two sisters, Linda Estelle Jenkins of Crew, VA, and Rosa Catherine Fisher of Richmond, VA; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services celebrating the life of Marvin Henry Pruden will be held Friday, June 8, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Rev. Frank Griffith and Rev. Steve Patterson will officiate. The family will receive friends Thursday, June 7, 2012 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Discretionary Fund or to the Choir Fund of Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church, 1206 Lyttleton Street, Camden, SC 29020; or to Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 525 Polly Drummond Hill Road, Newark, DE 19711.
