Mattie Blume Obituary

DENMARK - Mattie Joe Whittle Blume, 85, died Thursday evening, October 27, 2011, in Unihealth of Bamberg after an extended illness. Funeral service will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 30, 2011, at First Baptist Church of Denmark. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service. The Rev. Andy Hunter and the Rev. Gene Long will officiate. Burial will follow in Denmark Cemetery.

Mr. Blume was born April 8, 1926, in Orangeburg County. She was a daughter of the late Nathan Burton and Ruth Knotts Whittle. She was the widow of Johnny L. Blume Jr. She had retired from Southern Bell as a telephone operator. Mrs. Blume was a member of First Baptist Church of Denmark for many years. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and Woodmen of the World.

Mrs. Blume is survived by her daughter, Jenny Noles and her husband, F.C. of Blackville; and her son, Johnny L. "Skeeter" Blume III and wife, Betty, of Denmark; three brothers, Elvin Whittle of Neeses, Duren Whittle of Hamlet, N.C., Paul Whittle of Bamberg; two sisters, Patsy Fogle of Neeses, and Rose Sease of Lexington. He was predeceased by three brothers, N.B. Whittle, Caroll Whittle and Bruce Whittle. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Tracy Blume of California, and Jennifer Dyches (Rodney) of Blackville; and four great-grandchildren; also a special friend, Tammy Smoak of Bamberg.

Friends may call at the residence of Cecil Blume, 17655 Heritage Hwy., Denmark, or Mercer Funeral Home.

Mercer Funeral Home of Denmark is in charge of arrangements.
