Jane LaPorte Obituary

Jane Garnet LaPorte COLUMBIA - Jane Garnet LaPorte, 64, beloved wife and mother, went to heaven on Tuesday, April 12, 2016. Jane was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on March 24, 1952. Jane loved life. She traveled the world, appreciated the beauty of flowers and the sound of the ocean, enjoyed the companionship of numerous Golden Retrievers, gladly hosted a party for any number of occasions, and cherished her many loving friends. She was an avid quilter and used her skills and resources to found Quintessential Quilts, an organization dedicated to raising awareness of and funds for special needs children. Jane was a member of Shandon Baptist Church and particularly enjoyed her Sunday school class. Jane is survived by her husband of 39 years, Jonathan (Josh) of Columbia, South Carolina; daughter, Emily Noelle of Hawaii and Alaska; and sister, Kristina Krause, of Phoenix, Arizona. She was predeceased by her precious daughter, Colette Paige, whom she joins in eternity. Jane's abiding faith in Jesus Christ and generosity and love for her family and friends will forever be remembered. A service celebrating Jane's life will be held at a later date. The family requests that memorials be made to International Rett Syndrome, P.O. Box 706143, Cincinnati, OH 45270-6143. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.

Josh, Jane was the spark plug of our Sunday School Class, and we are all saddened by her passing. She was a very special lady, and Carolyn and I will miss her wit and sweet charm. If there is anything we can do for you, please call. We are praying for you and Emily.

Josh, I am so sorry to hear about Jane. I will always remember her quilting a quilt for the Australian Club at Richland Northeast High School in 1995. It was going to be auctioned off to raise money for the students to go to Australia, my daughter went that year. It was a beautiful quilt! I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.

Josh my thoughts and prayers are with you, Kristina and Emily. I worked with Jane at the district court, was a babysitter for Collette and Emily, helped with her auctions and had many wonderful dinners with you and your family. She will be truly missed by many people.

Jane always had a smile and upbeat presence. While we were friends through our work for over 20 years, I saw her infrequently. Yet when I did see her it never felt like time had passed. She will be remembered and missed.
