Mary Babich

Mary Babich, 94, a longtime resident of the Scranton area, died peacefully Friday.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Catherine Chalichan Pucher. She graduated from Scranton Technical High School. Before retirement, she was employed by local industries in the Dunmore area.

Mary was a member of St. John's Byzantine Catholic Church, Scranton. Her talents as a quilt maker always enhanced the Labor Day raffles of the church's St. Elizabeth Guild.

Surviving are two daughters, Mary Elaine Jenkins, Walnutport, Pa.; Joann Blackmore, Laurence Harbor, N.J.; two sons, Michael and wife, Suzanne, Rockville, Md.; Robert and wife, Elizabeth, Taylor; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Frank Pucher, Mount Cobb; two sisters, Ann Kofel, Dunmore; and Julie Yevich, Scranton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael; four brothers, Michael, John, George, Peter; and three sisters, Catherine, Helen and Margaret.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Dunmore Health Center and Celtic Hospice.

The funeral will be Monday from the Chipak Funeral Home, 343 Madison Ave., Scranton, where a Panachida service will be held at 9:30 a.m. followed by Divine Liturgy at 10:15 in St. John's Byzantine Catholic Church, Fourth and Broadway, Scranton, to be celebrated by the Rev. Leonard A. Martin, S.J., pastor. Interment to follow in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call today at the funeral home from 4 to 7 p.m.
