Stella M. Oley

Stella M. Oley, 90, formerly of Laflin, died Friday at the Mountain View Care Center, Scranton. Her husband of 64 years was the late Michael J. Oley.

Born June 7, 1919, in Brockton, Mass., she was the last survivor of four children of the late Michael and Pauline Roman Kasalis. She was a graduate of Jenkins Twp. High School. During her lifetime, she was a skilled seamstress. She was former mayor of her neighborhood at Mountain View Care Center as well as a member of the Red Hat Society. She was an avid bingo player.

She also will be remembered for her devoted participation in religious services at Mountain View. She was a charter member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Laflin.

Her family wishes to express its sincerest gratitude to the Mountain View staff, and especially her "Alcore Family."

Surviving are a daughter, Carol Smigiel and husband, Vince, Moosic; two sons, Richard Oley and wife, Rosemary, Elysburg; and Norman Oley and wife, Donna, Elysburg; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Buskirk; and two brothers, Alex and Arthur Kasalis.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10:15 a.m. from the Simon S. Russin Funeral Home 136 Maffett St., Plains, with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 in St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, to be celebrated by Monsignor Philip A. Gray. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Slovak Catholic Cemetery, Exeter.
