Joseph Blew Obituary

Joseph A. Blew of West Scranton died Sunday morning in Mountain View Care Facility following a courageous battle with cancer. His wife, the love of his life, the former Ann Popien, died July 27, 2001. The couple was married Aug. 15, 1969.

Born in Scranton on Sept. 4, 1937, son of the late Fred Blew Sr. and the late Margaret Magnone Blew Malysz. He was educated in Scranton schools. He was a veteran of the Navy, stationed aboard the USS Boxer in the West Pacific. He was employed by Superior Welding Co. and Superior Fireproof Door Co., where he served as steward for the Carpenters Industrial Union. Before retirement, he managed the Steel Division at Fiegleman's Recycling Center, Scranton.

He was a loving husband, father and brother who would always put others' needs ahead of his own. He enjoyed following national politics and strongly supported American ideals. He spent most of his retirement relaxing in his La-Z-Boy, watching baseball and football with his son. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Joseph's family would like to extend its sincere gratitude to Northeast Radiation Oncology Center and the staff and management of Mountain View Care Facility for their compassion and care given to Joseph throughout this difficult process.

Surviving are son, Jason Blew, Scranton; two brothers, Fred Blew Jr., New Jersey; and Steven Malysz, and wife, Marion, Dunmore; a sister, Maggie Cosgrove and companion, Donnie Howey, Scranton; nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Joseph Blew.

The funeral will be Thursday with services at 11 a.m. in the Carl J. Savino Funeral Home, 157 S. Main Ave., Scranton. Interment will be in Washburn Street Cemetery.

My brother, my friend. I will miss our talks most of all. Your warm words always seemed to calm me. You were one of the few who literally touched my heart throughout my life. If ever a man should not have suffered, it was you and I am so sorry that you did. I look foward to seeing you again and with all my heart, I love you. Jason, you did a wonderful job with everything. I am proud that you are my nephew. You Mom and Dad did a "good job" raising you.
