Doris Corday Obituary

Doris Anne Burnett Corday, 84, of Scranton, died Thursday, at Mountain View Care Center. She married the late Thomas Corday Sr. in 1948.

Born in Scranton on Sept. 30, 1928, she was the daughter of the late James and Julia Hart Burnett. Doris graduated from Teaneck High School in 1945. After marrying Thomas, they resided in Goshen, N.Y., and then Fort Lauderdale, Fla., before returning to Scranton in 1986. She was an active member of St. Mary's and Nativity Catholic churches, where she played pokeno and shuffleboard.

Doris loved to read, sew and crochet and made her passion into a business throughout her life. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Doris is survived by five children, Richard Corday, Collegeville; Theresa Allen and James Corday, Royersford; Thomas Corday, Fort Lauderdale; and Michael Corday, Springhill, Tenn.; a sister, Lois Foell, Key Coral, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Nordone.

The Rev. Michael Bryant will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday at 9 a.m. at St. John Neumann Parish at Nativity Church, 633 Orchard St., Scranton. Interment will be held at 2 p.m. in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Tenafly, N.J.

There will be a viewing on Tuesday from 8 to 8:30 a.m. at Brian Arthur Strauch Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 602 Birch St., Scranton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142 or the American Lung Association, 71 N. Franklin St., Room 207, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701.

We were very sorry to hear about your Mother. I spoke to her by phone a few weeks ago. We had a nice talk, I told her the next time I was in Scranton I would stop to see her, but unfortunately I did not make it in time. Our sympathy to the entire family. We will be unable to attend the mass on Tues. as I have to work. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
