Joseph Artone Obituary

Joseph M. Artone, 87, of Greenfield Twp., died Sunday at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton after being struck ill at home. His wife, the former Phyllis Payne, preceded him in death.

Born in Carbondale, he was the son of the late Carlo and Josephine Cerra Artone. Joe attended Carbondale public schools and served in the Army with the 82nd Airborne Division, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment. Before retirement, he had been employed as a machinist at Hendrick Manufacturing, Carbondale. Joe was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and shooting. He also liked going to the casinos and reading.

Surviving are three brothers, Carmine Artone and wife, Carol, Front Royal, Va.; Anthony Artone and Carlo James Artone, both of Greenfield Twp.; several nieces and nephews, including, Beverly Jane Hordesky and husband, Eugene; Audrey Vasquez and husband, Joseph; and Andrew Payne and wife, Linda; several great-nieces and great-nephews including, Joseph Lapiers.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Samuel Artone.

Private funeral services will be Wednesday from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., Farview and 41st streets, Carbondale. Interment, Union Dale Cemetery.
