Alfred CROSBY

CROSBY Alfred died on 14th March 2018, aged 87. He published a number of books with Cambridge University Press, most notably "Ecological Imperialism: The Biological Expansion of Europe"(1986). Prof Crosby was a major contributor to the field of environmental history. His work has been widely cited by both academic as well as popular science authors, such as his fellow Harvard alumnus, Prof Jared Diamond. During his long and distinguished career, Prof Crosby was involved in the Civil Rights Movement, taught Black Studies and the history of American jazz, worked for the American United Farm Workers' Union and took a leadership role in anti-war demonstrations. He is survived by his wife, Dr Frances Karttunen, his children Kevin, Carolyn, Jaana, and Suvi, and his grandchildren, Allegra, Xander, Jonah, Michael, and Hansi
