Rest in Peace Mickey.
April 3, 2018
Micky was very special to me. I delighted that he honoured me as a real live relative from Ireland. He and I with Anne had wonderful conversations. He visited me as a 'Rare Diseases Patient at Queens, on a cold day if i remember, he took me to lunch then and a kinder man i could never hope to meet.
Again he was there beside me on my 60th birthday celebrated in London with my twin sister
I met you so infrequently, but in a short space of time the memory of pure kindness, gentleness and fun will last for my life time. The memory of all your memories and Anne will last beyond for so many more besides.
condolences to your family, and an honourable wonderful man has left us all now. May you rest in Peace Micky.

Michael (Micky) Barnes was president of the Junior Common Room at Corpus Christi college, Oxford when I came up to Corpus from the United States in 1955. He came over to me in the Corpus quadrangle , greeted me asked me what my sport was and when I replied Football [American] suggested that I join the Corpus rugby team. Later he and Anne Mason, whom he later married, took me to a point to point. He and Anne subsequently invited my wife, also American, to weekend overnights at their collage west of Oxford and subsequently to their cottage near Sheffield. He compered the speakers at the Daunts launches of my first published book, Among Insurgents: Walking Through Burma, and for all my other books. Our Jack Russell Nipper perceived his love of dogs and climbed into bed with him when he and Anne stayed overnight with us. Nipper preceded Micky to Paradise, but were he with us he would miss Micky as much as we

Growing up in London, I considered Mr. Barnes as I called him, to be another father to me. A great man, he will be missed

I. and all my family, but especially my daughter Charlotte, will miss Micky s very much. An utterly lovely very special man, hugely right on all matters political , always ahead of everyone else in his thinking, his integrity, his string commitment to justice and fairness. I knew him first when he was an MP, width many Ugandan Asians, Bangladeshis in his cinxtuturncy, and I was an UKiAS Immigration Lawyer, turn ourvoaths crossed again, via JWT and the ASA ( advertising standard authority) But best of all we're the family's life cinnrcyiind, wilrshire ,and in W11.si friendly, loyal, generous, warm, witty, just a wonderful friend. Our hearts go out to Anne.
