James Mitchell Obituary

HAW RIVER - James "Jim" C. Mitchell III, age 71, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 11, 2012, at Duke University Medical Center. He was born on March 21, 1940, in Alamance County to the late James C. Mitchell, Jr. and Winfred Adamee Mitchell Garrison. He was married to Mary "Beckie" Massey Mitchell, of Haw River who survives. Other survivors include three daughters and a son, Cindy Hudson of Burlington, Renee Ward of Burlington, James C. Mitchell, IV of Oak Ridge, N.C. and Tina Cole of Mebane; eight grandchildren, Matt Hudson, Spencer Hardy, Mitchell Hardy, Mackenzie Mitchell, Clint Hudson, Trevor Mitchell, Adam Cole, and Ayden Cole; three sons-in-law and one daughter-in-law; Jeff Hudson, Chuck Ward, Billy Cole, and Sandra Mitchell. He is also survived by his special niece and nephew Alyssa and Ryan Mitchell, and his close friends Tom Pate, Tom Atlee, Butch Mitchum and Johnny Braxton.
Jim was a four-year veteran and Sergeant of the United States Air Force and retired from BellSouth after 37 years of service and Haw River Presbyterian Home. Jim was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a true conservative Republican in every sense of the word. He was a member of the Guilford Graves Shooting Club, Sissiapahaw Traditional Archers Club, a Boy Scout Master, and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. Paw Paw as he was called by his grandkids, will truly be missed and remembered for his sneaky smile, thumbs up sign, hunting conversations, and love of his hunting dogs, Pepper and Buddy.
A visitation will be held at McClure Funeral Home in Graham, from 5 until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13, 2012. The funeral service will also be held at McClure Funeral Home on Wednesday March 14 at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends after the service and at other times at the home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the National Rifle Association at, The NRA Foundation, 11250 Waples Mill Road, Fairfax, VA 22030.
