William “Billy” Efland Obituary

William "Billy" Efland, 86, of Efland, NC passed away, Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at his home with his family by his side.
Billy was a dedicated and loving family man with a quiet, simple nature and infectious grin. He was committed to his church and community. A long-standing elder in his church, Billy was known for his generosity and big heart to help others. He had an affinity for cars of all types and recently restored a 48 Chevrolet with the help of friends and family. He enjoyed gardening and tinkering in his shop. Billy spent most of his career as a technician at the Efland Hosiery Mill and served in the National Guard during the Korean War.
An informal gathering with light refreshments will be held to honor and celebrate Billy's life Saturday, July 5, 11:00 am to 1:30 pm at the Efland United Methodist Church, 3418 U.S. 70, Efland, NC. Family and friends are encouraged to share favorite memories and photographs of Billy.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 6, 2pm at Efland Presbyterian Church, 3700 U.S. 70, Efland, NC. After the funeral, the family will welcome visitors at the home place.
Online condolences may be left on Billy Efland's memorial tribute at McClure Funeral Service website www.mcclurefuneralservice.net.
Memorials may be made to Efland Presbyterian Church or to Duke Heart Center, Duke University Hospital, 2301 Erwin Road, Durham, NC. 27710.
Billy is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy May "Dot" Efland, his seven children Brenda Long (Edwin), Lucy Castle, Cindy Hale, Christie Martin-Gray (Marshall), Bill Efland, Jr. (Shelly), Mike Efland (Nancy) and Jaye Efland; his brothers Thomas D. Efland (Helen), Franklin B. Efland (Florine), and Robert F. Efland; and his 11 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren as well as many other relatives.
Preceding him in death were two sisters Bessie E. Hoffler and Caroline E. Harding and five brothers John L. Efland, Sr., C. M. Wilson Efland, Herman L. Efland, and M. Benton Efland.

We loved this man so much! He was so good and loving to all! We Lawrence children from Mebane, Tommy,Sarah and Catherine, knew Billy would always keep us straight, and see to it that we had fun at Playland Skating Rink! We loved the times we spent there!
