William Eichelberger Obituary


MEBANE - William Ernest Eichelberger died December 2, 2010 at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
A native of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Grace and Harry Eichelberger.
His passion for engineering took him all over the world. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a race car driver for V.I.R. and held the lap record. He was also an avid sailor. He was an inventor, designer and driver of The Porsche Keil, an inventor with multiple patents, worked for GE under contract with the U.S. Navy in the Virgin Islands, and worked with Corning Glass Works in Raleigh and Massachusetts.
He is survived by his wife, Wendy Squiers Eichelberger; son, Harry Ernest Eichelberger; daughters, Karen Eichelberger, Lynn McGee and Pam Heyl; eight grandchildren; brother, John Eichelberger; sisters, Cynthia Schimpf and JoAnne Harris; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Leroy and Grace Sturdivant Eichelberger; and a brother, Robert Eichelberger.
Private services will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Twin Lakes Memory Center in Burlington, N.C.

Ike was a great guy and will be remembered singing "Sadie,Sadie..." he made a wonderful adopted "grandpa" to our little Lailah and he will be missed by all who knew him.
