Tezalee & Family,
It is always somewhat of a shock to hear of someone's passing. We did not know JW but he was part of the larger Burkett Family. Our condolances to each and all of you.

Dear Mom Tez, Bill and Sharlotte,
It was sad news for me to learn that JW's funeral was last Friday. I was out of town and apologize for not making it back. You all know my feelings for Mr. Crump (and Mrs.). I always called him my "second Dad". While working at Kay's he mentored me and truly guided me through some bumpy times. I will never forget the way he would motivate us to treat customers like good friends and never burn any bridges even when "crocs" were a bit mean and ornery. I can never forget his laugh ... it always made me and everyone else smile no matter how bad a day they may be having. I owe a lot of any success I have had in my life to Mr. Crump. Please know that I have carried on his quiet program of taking care of teens through employment and mentoring and being that "2nd dad" that many of them are looking for.
I'm glad he is in heaven and happy and looking down on all of us now and smiling away. Please let me know if the family needs anything during this sad but joyous time.

Dear Tezalee, Sharlot, Bill,
I have such fond memories of J.W. during the years that he worked with my grandmother in her store on the parish line. All the grandkids adored him, and I'm sure that we made his life much more difficult by being underfoot as often as we could manage. A great joy was to be invited to go "delivering" with him at 2:00 each Saturday afternoon. He'd load bags of feed, bags of groceries, and whatever grandkids were around onto the back of Granny's pick-up, and off we'd go, bouncing around the back roads, singing or whistling as loud as we could manage. (But we were instructed to be quiet when we got to a customer's house so that he could take care of business.)
I'm sure that you have thousands of similar memories to share with your family. He was a fine man, and it was a privilege to have known him

A fine man knocked on Heaven's door and was admitted with open arms. A kinder...more gracious..caring man than J.W. Crump would be hard to find. "Crump" as we called him...employed hundreds of college students over the years including myself. Because of his generosity these students wre able to work flexible hours around their college schedules and earn their degrees. Business owners, lawyers, doctors, teachers, bankers..and every other profession you can think of, all worked their through college because of Mr.Crump. We loved J.W. and enjoyed working and learning from him. Thank you Mr. Crump. Here's a fresh cigar for you to chew on.
Prayers of Peace and comfort to Mr. Crump's family and thank you for sharing him with us.

To the Family of Mr. J.W. Crump, Sr.: My sincerest condolences for your loss. My mom would load all eight of us kids in a station wagon to go get fitted for shoes every year before school started. Of course, if anyone in the family needed shoes at any other time, I was always a volunteer to go. I feel so honored to have met a man like Mr. Crump. He was one of the finest. I look forward to seeing him again in Heaven.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

As a little girl, I remember going to Kay's Shoe Store and Mr. Crump fitting me and my sisters for shoes. Later, when visiting in Alex, I would take my aunt, Pauline Morrison, to the Shoe Trunk to be fitted again by Mr. Crump. He was always so friendly and helpful. Thoughts and prayers are with his family.
