Tom Joseph Ledet

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 4:00 PM at 214 Rue Fosse Lafayette, LA 70508 for Tom Joseph Ledet, 82, who died on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at his residence in Lafayette surrounded by his family.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, Linda "Cookie" Ledet; three daughters, Teresa Lynn "Sunshine" Houston and her husband, Mitch, Brenda Annette Simon and her husband, Sidney and Lisa Kaye Dupree and her husband, Chuck; two sons, Terry Louis Ledet and Tom Joseph Ledet, Jr.; one sister, Sandra Mae Laudun; seventeen grandchildren, Taylor Jamisen Gmaz, Michael Paige Sandbank, Emily Anne Johnson, Erin Lee Dupree, Sebastian Cranford, Justin Richard Caldwell, Bennett Joseph Ledet, Ethan Frederick Ledet, Timothy Charles Ledet, Laura Grace Ledet, Cris Ann Moore, Jessica Marie Plumlee, Trace Edward Houston, Jacob Mitchell Houston, Melissa King, Craig Simon and Crystal Johnson; and twelve great-grandchildren, Nate Moore, Abigail Moore, Apolline Sandbank, Peregrine, Anouche, Rhydian Gmaz-Finley, Olivia Rudolph, Annabella Plumlee, Alessandra Sunshine Ledet, Landon King, Sydney King and Scarlett Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raoul Joseph Ledet and Zudie Mae "Cootsie" McCollum Miller; one brother, Edward Lee Miller; and his grandparents, Alice Miller and Thomas Arthur McCollum.

Tom Joseph Ledet was a native of Pineville, Louisiana and a resident of Lafayette for 8 years. He worked as a journalist for many years for the Alexandria Daily Town Talk and was President of the Louisiana Press Association. Mr. Ledet also served as Press Secretary for United States Congressman Gillis Long and Lieutenant Governor Robert L. "Bobby" Freeman. He served as Executive Director of the Red River Valley Association, was employed at L.H.R.D.I. and owned and operated Furniture Medic prior to his retirement. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend to all. Mr. Ledet enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and will be dearly missed.

I knew him as a close friend at the age of 15 at Bolton High School. I watched him develope into a
talent as a journalist and public relations person.
He never forgot old friends, and his happiest years
were with Cookie.
