Roma Gwen Dyess

Funeral services for Mrs. Roma Gwen Dyess, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 21, 2016, in the Chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home, Alexandria, with her grandson, Reverend Willis Martin, Reverend Leland Guin, Reverend Azel Ott and Reverend Douglas Freeman officiating. Interment will follow at Campbell Creek Cemetery, Sharp.

Roma Gwen Dyess, affectionately known as "Aunt Romie" and "Big MawMaw", was born in Lena on July 28, 1933, and went to be with our Lord on July18, 2016, in Alexandria, at Rapides Regional Medical Center.

Gwen was preceded in death by her parents, Abigail Ward and Mallie Guin of Lena, Louisiana; her sister, Omie Pace; and her five brothers, Mallie Guin, William "Link" Guin, Clarence Guin, Clint Guin and Dewitt Guin.

She is survived by her loving husband of 33 years, James A. (Jim) Dyess; three children, Craig Martin and wife Paula, Wade Martin and wife Mary, Sandra Bonnette and husband Robin and stepson, Harold G. Dyess and wife Terri.

She also leaves behind to cherish her memory her grandchildren, Terry Martin and wife Candice, Nolan Martin and wife Terri , Willis Martin and wife Rochelle, Wesley Martin, Jason Martin and wife Aimee, Jared Martin and wife Denita, Andrea Jones and husband Chad, Angela Hanna and husband Robert , Lisa Culpepper and husband Joey, Dewayne "Bubba" Nick and wife Taryn, Adam Nick, Kyla Vaughn and husband Robert, Jaclyn Clinton and husband Brandon, Jodie Bonnette and wife Julie, Logan Bonnette, Ragan Bonnette, Megan Bonnette, Jimmy Dyess and wife Missy, Nicole Gregory and Katie Dyess, and 46 great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Gwen attended Boyce High School and later graduated from Alexandria Business School. She also completed Real Estate School and was a successful real estate agent for several years. Ultimately, she followed her true passion and achieved her RN degree and served many years in the healthcare field. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and a friend to many.

She was always faithful to the Pentecostal faith and loved the Lord above all else. Some of her favorite pastimes included "going to the camp" with her husband, Jim, and hunting, fishing, gardening, bowling and cooking for her family. She also loved flea markets and garage sales. She will always be remembered for her devotion to her family, her sharp wit, and wonderful sense of humor. We will forever carry the love and memory of her in our hearts.Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., and resume on Thursday, July 21, 2016, from 8:00 a.m. until time of service.

Pallbearers will be Terry Martin, Nolan Martin, Jason Martin, Jared Martin, Chase Lemoine, Cameron Martin, Jack Martin, Jacob Martin, Daniel Miller and Adam Nick. Honorary Pallbearers will include all of her loving grandsons and great-grandsons.
