Funeral services for Jerome Edward "Jerry" Ward, 64, of Slagle, Louisiana will be held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 19th, at the Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Leesville. Burial will follow in the Hemphill Star Cemetery, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.

Visitation will be Tuesday, August 18th, at 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, August 19th from 8:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.

Jerome Edward "Jerry" Ward, 64, of Slagle was diagnosed with liver cancer on July 22. 2015 and after a hard fought battle he passed away on August 16, 2015, at Rapides Hospital in Alexandria, LA.

Jerry was born September 20, 1950 in Alexandria, LA. He graduated from Bolton High School in 1968 and attended Northwestern State University. At the young age of fifteen, Jerry began supporting himself by working at the A & P Grocery in Alexandria after school and during holidays. In 1971 he began his career with the telephone company and after 42 years Jerry retired on October 12, 2012.

In 1996 Jerry married his soul mate, Becky Martin. He cherished Becky and every day that they shared together whether it was riding four wheelers, fishing, hunting or just sitting on the deck.

Jerry was predeceased in death by his son, Wesley Neal Ward, who also lost a battle to bone cancer at the age of 28; his uncle and mentor O'Neal Parker.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Becky of Slagle. Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Obie Ward and wife, Stacy of Pineville and Jerod Ward and wife, Rachel of Pineville; his sister Renee Handy and husband Eddie of Boyce and brother Randy Ward and wife Tina of Cotile Lake; grandchildren: Travis Ward, Kaylea Ward, Luke Ward, Molly Ward and Connor Ward.
