Charles Quincey "Chase" Gage IV obituary

Charles Gage Obituary

Gage Charles Quincey "Chase" Gage IV, age 19, died May 14, 2015, from complications incurred in an automobile accident in Springfield. Ohio. Chase completed his sophomore year at Wittenberg University where he ran cross country and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta "Fiji" fraternity. He was also a member of the Alumni Board. He was the recipient of the Troy Frank Stallard Scholarship and the Presidential Scholarship. Chase was a 2013 graduate of Grandview High School. He was an honor student, band member and runner on the cross country and track teams. He was in French club and traveled to France with the student group. He was an Eagle Scout whose project was to place markers on each corner in Grandview to identify drains systems to make them a "green" safe environment. He participated in People to People Ambassador Program and visited Australia when he was only 10 years old. He was well known in Grandview for his landscaping company. In the spring he left school on weekends to service his customers. He attended Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. To understand his colorful (and unorthodox mix) of shoes and shirts, infectious smile, quiet leadership, meaningful outreach to friends, and the impact Chase had on his community, please see the comments on his Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/chase.gage.1?fref=ts. Chase is survived by his parents, Quint and Laura Gage of Grandview Heights, Ohio; his sister, Selby; his maternal grandparents, Thomas and Martha Lentz of St. Petersburg, Fla.; paternal grandmother, Karen Gage Woody of Charleston, W. Va.; paternal grandfather, the late Charles Q. Gage; step-grandfather, Charles L. Woody of Charleston, W.Va.; aunts and uncles, T.J. and Renee Lentz of Cincinnati; Katie and Mark Crites of Atlanta, Ga.; Geoffrey and Hope Gage of Morgantown, W.Va.; step uncle and aunt, C. Ruffner and April Woody of Charleston, W.Va.; great aunts and uncles; and numerous cousins. A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at 2 p.m., at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2001 Northwest Boulevard (Upper Arlington), where his family will greet friends immediately following the service in Grace Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Chase Gage Scholarship/Memorial Fund at P. O. Box 126, Grandview Heights, Ohio 43212. Chase's house at Wittenberg will be the first gift to the scholarship fund. Arrangements entrusted with JOHN QUINT TREBONI FUNERAL HOME, 1177 West Fifth Avenue, Columbus. Quint, Laura, and Selby,
My thoughts and prayers are with your family for your horrible loss. I can only imagine the grief you must feel. One of my greatest joys of teaching was when I switched from teaching first grade to fourth grade and I was able to teach some of my former first graders again three years later. Chase was one of my second-time-around students. He was such a role model student-- always there with an enthusiastic smile, a kind word, and the correct answer! It was so amazing for me to see the vast amount of knowledge and skills he had learned between first and fourth grade. I was extremely impressed with his outstanding time in Miss Eichner's mile run, and he smiled and told me that was because he always ran with his Dad! When Chase was a fourth grader, he gave me a throw blanket as a gift. I have treasured that blanket through the years because Chase was such a neat kid. It has happy memories for me! We have always called it "the Chase Gage blanket" around my house. I will continue to bundle up with his blanket on chilly nights for years to come and will remember the friendly, outgoing young man that I was blessed to teach for two years.

You do not know me but my son, Wade Schnegg, is one of Chase's friends from Wittenberg. He loved your son as his brother and I am so thankful that you raised such a wonderful, kind, caring and loving son. Chase took my son under his wing and was there for him everyday and helped him to meet new people, get settled in at Wittenberg and was his best friend there.(he was a transfer from Kent). My heart is aching for your family and the students at Witt and for my son. I have been praying for all of you non-stop for God to give you peace, comfort, strength. Also for God to let you feel His loving arms around you as he carries you through this time of sorrow. There are not enough words to say to make it better, so I will just keep praying....again I am so very sorry for your loss and sorrow. Just know your son touched so many lives and I am glad my son had time to know yours.

Chase, you made me giggle everyday I got to see you. Whether you were selling overpriced candy out of your locker or designing a Halloween costume out of the shipping boxes you found in the library, you made me laugh and that is a gift. Thank you. Sending your family love and prayers.
