George W. Schmidt

Schmidt George W. Schmidt, age 90, of Powell, went to meet his Lord in Heaven on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at the Convalarium at Indian Run in Dublin, Ohio. Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Mildred Irene "Peg" Schmidt, he is survived by his children, Donna Schmidt of Denver, CO, Michael (Jill) Schmidt of Denver, Edward (Diane) Schmidt of Dublin and Richard "Greg" (Sylvia) Schmidt of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren, George (Liz) Schmidt of Portland, OR, Liza (Marquis) Bankston of Denver, Brooke Schmidt and Megan Schmidt of Denver, Katherine "Katie" Schmidt of Dublin and Andrew Schmidt of St. Louis; great-grandsons Jacob Schmidt and Aiden Bankston. A veteran of the United States Army Air Corps during WWII, George was a First Lieutenant in the 357th Fighter Squadron, 355th Fighter Group, 8th Air Force serving in the European Theater and received a group citation for extraordinary heroism. After the war, he graduated from University of Michigan and received his law degree from Harvard University. George retired in 1988 as Legal Counsel for Nationwide Insurance Company after 30 years of service. A faithful parishioner of St. Joan of Arc Church, George and his wife Peg were former parishioners of both St. Andrew and St. Agatha parishes. He was a member of both the Columbus Bar Association and the Ohio Bar Association. JOAN OF ARC CATHOLIC CHURCH, 10700 Liberty Road, Powell, OH 43065 with The Reverend Michael Gentry, Celebrant. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Lewis Center, Ohio.
