Laura Hickfang Obituary

Hickfang Laura Lee Hickfang passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, April 11, 2015 with family at her side. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul, who was Director of Opera & Professor Emeritus at The Ohio State University. She is survived by her sons, Paul Chase and Gary (Janie); and her daughter, Carrie Lee; grandsons, Tim and Max; and granddaughter, Morgan. She was a loving wife, wonderful mother and nurturing grandmother to her family. Laura Lee received her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Piano from The University of Texas at Austin. She was a classically trained pianist having performed her first solo recital at the age of six. While at The University of Texas, she met her husband, Paul and throughout Paul's singing career, Laura Lee played an intricate role by accompanying him and offering him counsel. Teaching privately out of her home for well over 50 years was THE JOY of her life. Laura Lee was an active member of The Ohio Music Teachers Association, being a past President and judge for numerous contests. She also taught piano at The Ohio State University and was the organist for Linworth Methodist Church for 13 years. Laura Lee loved spending time with her family and friends. She had an extraordinary sense of humor and enjoyed making others laugh. She was a true Southern Belle. Laura Lee's legacy is that she touched so many lives over the years through her God given gift for the piano and teaching. A memorial service celebrating Laura Lee's life will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at First Community Church, 1320 Cambridge Blvd., in Grandview, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, please send a gift to Laura Lee's alma mater, The Butler School of Music at The University of Texas at Austin, 2406 Robert Dedman Drive, Austin, TX 78712.

I had so much fun visiting Laura Lee for two years. We shared a love of our dogs, and laughed together about life's situations. She was a gift to my life. Barb Cunningham
