Arthur Beckman Obituary

born April 8, 1922 at Towle, Ca. passed away at home on November 13, 2010. His father Chris Beckman, mother Gladys (Plumtree) Beckman and brothers Charlie and Christy Beckman, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Leah Beckman, daughter Barbara Mayberry and husband Gary, son Chris Beckman and son Mark Beckman and wife Roberta, grandchildren Rebecca McKinnon and husband Gerald, Jeff Mayberry and Fiancee Crystal Morgan, Nicholas Beckman, Sophia Beckman and Sarah Beckman, and great granddaughter Erin McKinnon. He graduated from Placer High School in 1944 and served aboard the destroyer USS Amen during World War II. In Eureka, Ca. he was very active with youth groups. He was a Cub Scout Leader, Boy Scout Leader, Explorer Leader with ship 28 and served as Community Commissioner in the Redwood Empire District. In 1960 he helped establish the Cutten Baseball League. He is a Life Member of Cutten Elementary School PTA. He served as advisor for the Eureka Chapter Order of DeMolay. When he transferred with PG&E. back to Auburn, Ca. he continued to be involved in youth groups and was Chapter Dad for the Auburn, Ca. Chapter Order of DeMolay. He retired from Auburn PG&E in 1982 after 38 years of service. He and his wife Leah enjoyed traveling the world for twenty years. He was a member of Semper Virens Masonic Lodge in Eureka, Ca. He served as Master of Clay Lodge in Dutch flat, Ca and as Master of Illinoistown Lodge in Colfax, Ca. He is a Hiram Award Recipient and a recipient of the Golden Veterans Award. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Sacramento, Ben Ali Shriners and the Chinese Acacia Club. At his request no services will be held. I remember Art as a neighbor and as a scout leader. Art was always ready to help us neghborhood youngsters in the 50's and 60's. My condolences to Barbara, Chris, Mark and their families. A good man is gone.
