Avery Sloper Obituary

August 13, 1936 - November 17, 2010 Avery Sloper died peacefully in his sleep Nov. 17, after an 18 month struggle with cancer. He was 74. Avery was born to Maurice and Dorothy Sloper in Modesto, CA. He spent much of his childhood on the family raisin farm in Fresno, CA. In high school he was active in both sports and 4H. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Germany. He married the love of his life, Marielle Pelletier in 1966. They moved from Fresno to first Loleta then Eureka, CA. He loved sailing his boat in Humboldt Bay. Avery also enjoyed RVing, having owned 4 over the course of his life. He worked for PG&E for many years, retiring at age 50 as a Service Superintendent. Soon Avery and Marielle were off on many adventures as full-timers in their RV. After 10 years, they finally settled down in Port Townsend, WA, while still wintering in Arizona. Avery is survived by his wife, Marielle; sons Mark (Karen) and Paul (Tieneke); daughter Ann; brother Ross (Sue); and 8 grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Port Townsend, WA on Sat. Dec. 4, 2010 at noon. Remembrances may be made to Hospice of Jefferson County, 2500 W.
