Beatrice Melanson Obituary

went home to be with the Lord on Nov. 30th in Eureka, CA. She was born on August 23, 1925, in Waseca, Minnesota to Orlando and Cleo Draheim. She is survived by her husband, Don, who was dedicated to her care when she began to need help, daughters Corinne Stromstad (Glen) of Garberville, CA, Paula Schmitt (David) of Larkspur, CO, Janine Melanson (Iver Lien) of McKinleyville, CA, sister Blanche Ridgeway, sister-in-law Babe Draheim, brother Wayne Draheim, and sister-in-law Sharla. While technically an "in-law", Jacqueline Melanson was considered as one of her own to Bea and has certainly acted as such, always being available to lend a helping hand, heart, and laugh. The same is true about Glen Stromstad. Bea knew she could count on her "Glenny" and he could do no wrong in her eyes. Bea loved her grandchildren, Jessica Barnett, Aaron Melanson, Kristen Melanson, Heidi, Matthew, Eric & Steven Schmitt, and delighted in her great grandchildren, Sophia, Malachi, Kyra and Isack. She is preceded in death by her parents, son Gregory Melanson, daughter Renae Melanson, and brother Rodney Draheim. In 1945, she and Donald Melanson were married. Bea and Don began their life together in Marion, ND, where many fond memories and lifelong friends were made. They enjoyed great times spent with Don's sister, Eileen and her husband Bill Kosse, going to dances and spending time with friends, as well as raising their children together. In 1961, Bea and Don moved to Eureka. Bea kept her home with a perfection unsurpassed. Her faith in God and dedication to her family were unwavering. Bea worked for Bank of America after her kids were older and upon retirement volunteered with St. Joseph Hospital's Volunteers and through the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. She and Don were members of the St. Bernard's Catholic Parish and attended St. Joseph Church. She looked forward to breakfast after church with their dear friends, Stella and Ben Benzonelli. She spent the last year and a half at Frye's Care Home. Her family is very grateful for the quality care and love she received there. Thank you also to Hospice of Humboldt for helping Bea's life end with dignity and in peace. Services will be held at St. Joseph Church, Henderson & C, Eureka, CA, on December 8, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the HCOE Workability Program, 901 Myrtle Ave, Eureka, CA 95501, or a charity of your choice. What a nice lady and a fun sense of humor. I am sure she will be greatly missed until her family is reunited one day. I am so sorry for your loss. I could be wrong but I think many, many years ago I worked with her daughter, Corinne at the bank in Henderson Center.

Sincerely,

Pam Byington

I met Bea only once. My husband (Paul Melanson) and I visited northern California a few years back. I got to meet the entire Melanson clan for the first time at a nice seafood restaurant for dinner. I remember that Bea was nicely dressed and very warm and friendly. She was surrounded by her family and she seemed very comfortable. I liked her right off. May her spirit soar and fly free. Cherie

Corinne and Glen, I just wanted you to know that we share your grief in the loss of your mom, please extend our concern to the rest of your family. Oh Lord, please bless the family as they say goodbye...thank-you for the promise that for a believer in Jesus as Savior and Lord that to be absent from the body is to be present with You until the glorious day of resurrection to come!...In Jesus' name we pray, amen. ( I love the verses that share how things are going to take place when the Lord returns that Paul wrote in a letter to Christian friends in 1st Thessalonians 4: 13 to 18, Corinne, take a minute and read the passage...pretty exciting!) When I was little I knew her as "Aunt BD" and always looked forward to seeing her and the family. My wife and I had a good time seeing her and Uncle Don again recently during a trip to the Redwoods. I will miss her. - Paul (& Cherie) Melanson
