Betty Carolyn Kyle Brisbin

Betty Brisbin Obituary

Betty Carolyn Kyle Brisbin Betty was born at home in Monroe, Oregon on September 11, 1924 to Caryl Edwards Kyle and Orr Belknap Kyle. Her earthly journey ended on February 20th 2010, safely in the benevolent care of Janice Liegl at Frye's Care home in Eureka, California. Her childhood on the family ranch in Oregon's Willamette Valley formed the basis for innumerable stories which served to delight every following generation, and shall continue to be passed on as family legends. Her parents and all siblings and their spouses preceded her in passing, as did nearly all cousins; and she learned recently that she was the last remaining female from her Monroe High School graduating class. Betty sorely missed her brothers, Sam (DiAnne) Kyle, Joseph "Bud" (Juliette) Kyle,, and her sister Donna "Maxine" Kyle Hoopes (Lewis). She was also predeceased by her longtime friend, former husband, and father of her children, Delbert Dale Brisbin. Betty was a woman of many talents and interests. She was valedictorian of her high school class. She spent nearly four decades in the accounting department of Eureka City Schools. Travel highlights included a three-week exploration of Canada with Del, Linda and Brad; many camping and backpacking forays (particularly the hike to the summit of Mt. Whitney); and a treasured trip to Hawaii hosted by her son Brad and wife Linda. Hummel figurines, Boyd's Bears, Irish crystal, and stuffed animals were considered worthy of collection, and collect them she did. She will be fondly remembered for her piano-playing, scarf-knitting, and cookie-baking. She found pleasure and took great pride in teaching her arts and crafts and baking techniques to her young relatives, and was a huge fan of their sporting, musical and artistic events and accomplishments. Prom dresses were designed, bake sales supported, scholastic achievements cheered. She bought raffle tickets, school and sports apparel, and magazines she didn't need, all to encourage each generation from her children on down to her great-great granddaughter. Left to celebrate Betty's life are: Daughter and son-in-law Linda and Ed Van Horn; son and daughter-in-law Brad and Linda (Crivello) Brisbin; granddaughters Gayle Van Horn and Lynne Conoboy (Lee); great-grandchildren Casey Campbell (Sara Cota), Linda Campbell (Stephen Braun), Karen Campbell, Cody Conoboy, and Aidan Weston; great-great granddaughter, Emileigh Nancy Lynne Campbell; and eagerly-waited great-great grandson Triston Joel Braun, due in May. "Adopted" great grand daughters are Natasha (Anthony) Knight, and Tonya and Tanya Conoboy. "Adopted" great-great grandsons include Anthony II, Robert, and Brenden Knight. Betty's treasured nieces, nephews and their families, as well as friends who are special enough to qualify as family, will continue to help us remember the multitude of ways in which our lives have been enhanced and enriched by Betty's solid strength and legacy of love. FAMILY meant everything to Betty...and the feeling was mutual. John Brimlow, PA-C, and nurse Brenda at Eureka Family Practice have given unconditionally compassionate care to Betty, and every person we encountered in the week Betty was aided by Hospice of Humboldt was of assistance. Robert Lock, M.D., Lu from Home Health, the folks at General Hospital Lab, and all personnel, we encountered in Betty's stays at St. Joseph Hospital also took good care of her. To all of them, and particularly to the dear and special people at Frye's Care Home, her family owes and extends great gratitude. Bonnie at Pierce Mortuary is gratefully acknowledged, as well. Betty expressly requested that there be no formal services. When Gayle and Aidan arrive from North Carolina, her immediate family will gather to cherish her priceless memory. If you have a favorite "Betty Story", please share it with someone else who knew her, and then hug a child or bake a cookie in her honor. She would consider that a real gift..... Dear Linda and family: I was sorry to hear of your mother's passing. She is such a big part of all my Eureka memories...especially the junior high school years when she was nice enough to pick me up and take me along with you to school. Also, her kindness in letting me pop over to your house at any time and always being so welcoming. She was so very fortunate lady to have you and Ed, your children, and grandchildren so close both physically and emotionally for her entire life. And you were equally fortunate for her love and support all those years. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Dear Linda,Ed and family:

We were so sadden to read of your mothers passing but what a better place she is now in.

I have so many fond memories of your mother dating back when I was in Junior High School and was in office practice and your dear mother was one of my supervisors. She was such a wonderful, sweet lady and I will forever have her in my thoughts, prayers and memories. God blessed you for being able to have her here as long as you did.

I know it isn't easy losing our parents but just remember the reunions we will all have when we are together again. There is truely a special Angel looking down on us all.

God bless and much love,
Tom and Vivian

Dearest Linda and Family-
I did not realize that your Mom was at Frye's or that she had been ill. We are getting to that age where we never thought we would be, I broke my hip last April but still able to navigate on my own.
Your Mom was so fortunate to have such a loving family and you stayed so close which means everything.
All our thoughts are with you at this time, and we all send our love to the family Linda.
