Evelyn Gould Hartman

Evelyn Gould Hartman was born on November 5, 1919 at her pioneer Cooper family homestead in Hydesville, CA and she passed away peacefully at her daughter's home in Live Oak, CA on December 22, 2010 at the age of 91. Evelyn was a lifelong resident of Humboldt County. She was raised on the family's dairy and sheep ranch in the Yager Creek valley. She attended the original Hydesville School and graduated from Fortuna High School in 1938. She met and married George L. Hartman while attending college in San Jose. They returned to Humboldt County in 1948 to live in Garberville and Redway where they raised their family and where Evelyn lived until she moved to Eureka in 1984. Evelyn loved to dance and she danced every week with the Friendship Circle until she was unable to due to an injury. She loved to swim and walk with her friends, Ann and Pat. She was a member of the Eureka Elks Emblem Club and the Moose. She was preceded in death by her husband, George L. Hartman; parents, Dallas N. and Zina Cooper Gould; and brothers, Cooper and Clinton Gould. Evelyn, also known as Grammie by many, is survived by her son, Ronald Hartman (Linda) and her daughter, Teena Carlquist; grandchildren Brian Hartman (Brandi), Daniel Hartman (April), Vicki Carlquist Johnson (Monte), and Kory Carlquist; great-grandchildren, Mallory and Miles Hartman; Samantha, Brenden and Miranda Johnson; Kaitlyn, Kendra and Keenan Carlquist; her sister, Marjorie Jenott; numerous nieces and nephews; and by her very special "adopted" family, the Stickels Family.
