Still talk about Grant´s visit to Ohio to visit family at 88 years old. He stayed with us for several days and it was so enjoyable. We had a backyard family reunion and went bass fishing. It was a genuine good time.

Grant was a very special person to all of Humboldt County. He made a difference in many, many lives. He would always stand up for what he believed in and clearly loved his country. He was very proud to have served this great country in the military. I could always count on Grant and Kate to assist me, and to give me advice. He came to my defense in meetings more than once and helped settle the crowd down with his no nonsense appoach. God bless them both for they were so special to me and Humboldt County. Dear Grant Ramey Family:
I was sorry to learn of Grant's passing, although I know he must have done it in style, on All Hallows Eve yet! I knew Grant as one of the best Community Activists and Volunteers for McKinelyville. Whenever something or someone needed help Grant was the go to guy. I met Grant many years ago through Herb Miller and later Anna Sparks and Patsy Dixon. He and Kate were quite a pair always supporting the community. As a news reporter for KINS Radio I always loved interviewing Grant on issues in the FIFTH Supervisorial District and McKinelyville cause he told it like it was, nothing flowery just the cold hard facts, RAMEY style. Grant is a legend who will continue to live in the hearts of his family and his community! God Speed Grant!

Kindest regards,

Grant with a 25-lb salmon he caught, August 2010.

Uncle Grant was the last of the grown-ups, those family members who were adults when I was a kid. Grant was never short of an opinion or a helping hand. He helped many through the years, including my father when he was troubled. I had the opportunity to spend some time with Grant the last few years, and I'm very glad to have done so. We went fishing of the Washington coast in August of this year and he out-fished most of the people on the boat. I'll miss Grant. He was a strong man with a good heart.

Grant was generous with his support and his good sense of humor. It was due to Grant and Aunt Kate during my college years that I was able to acquire a degree from Humbmoldt State. They allowed me to share their home. It was filled with love and laughter and I will always be grateful.

My Uncle Grant has always been very special to me all these years. We had so much of an unteresting life that has long gone by. I'm so happy that thru the years I kept up with both him an Aunt Kate., as those were special years. He always gave me good advice just like Grandma Ramey did. He will truly be missed, but I'm just glad I called him every month an sent cards to him. I even called on his birthday but was unable to reach him. He sure hit his milestone in life.Hope to hear about our family life that he was keeping up on, as he told me , so the Ramey's an White's he was getting it for us. I will really miss him as will all my family, but he will be in God's arms now. You'll always be loved Uncle Grant.
My eye surgery has kept me from writing things I really wanted to as hard to see yet, since my left Cornea Transplant.

I have always cherished and looked up to Uncle Grant! We had so many happy times together when I was growing up and through phone conversations throughout my life. We had just spoken earlier this past summer and he had told me how he was getting our Family History book together and I would soon have a copy to pass on to my kids. We always had wonderful talks and he always had a way of making me feel good. He and Aunt Kate wre there for me when I lost my Father William Vernon Sarver back in May 1984. I remember the last timer I saw him and Aunt Kate was back in 1986 and I got to see Aunt Sue also whom I am named after and we had such a nice visit back in Oregon. Uncle Grant always spoke what he felt or thought. He touched my life as deeply as Grandma Ramey had when she was alive. Both very dear to me!We have lost a great man and heaven has gained a beautiful spirit. I love you Uncle Grant and will never forget you!

I will always remember Uncle Grant as a straight shooter, and a man not afraid of his convictions. While he never had any children of his own, he treated all of his nieces and nephews as if they were his own. If we needed a 'spanking', he was not afraid to administer it. I will always remember Grant as a loving and caring man. He will be sorely missed by all of his family. With him gone there is not another connection with the generation that he and my father Kenneth shared. He has earned a peaceful sleep. Edwin L. (Bud ) Ramey

Dear Ramey family. I'm sorry to hear of your loss of Grant. It brings back memories of my father who was also in the 41st Infantry Division. He lived in the Bay Area but knew Grant through 41st reunion activities. I lived in Eureka and met Grant through various athletic activities between McKinleyville and Eureka. I was always impressed with his involvement with and dedication to his community. I'm sure he was the same with his family.
Sincerely, Duane Peterson
