Helen Anderson Obituary

passed away peacefully October 2, 2010 in her Eureka, CA. home at the age of 89. She was born on April 25, 1921 to George Marr Aitken, an Oregon State Senator, and Margaret Hansina (Nelson) Aitken. Helen grew up in Tigard, Oregon. She was preceded in death by her three brothers: George, Melvin and James Aitken. Helen married Curtis R. Anderson from Eureka on November 3, 1946. They were married 34 years until Curt's death in 1980. They had no children. Helen worked for Humboldt Central Lab for twenty four years until her retirement at age sixty five. She made many friends during this time with her friendly personality. In 1981 Helen met Robert F. Sargent from Arcata and they became committed companions until his death in 1998. Helen was dearly loved by Bob's family as well as by her six nieces and nephews. Helen will be remembered for her great sense of humor, wonderful laugh, love of gardening, for being a great cook, love of animals and the special twinkle in her eye. Those surviving Helen are her nieces and nephews: Terrill Aitken, OH., James Aitken, WA., John Aitken, WA., David Aitken, WA., Sarah Aitken Tidland, WA., and Julie Aitken Safley, OR.; Curt's nephews: Don Anderson, WA. and Darrel Anderson, CA.; and Bob's daughters: Sheryl Lauron, OR, and Sue Bux, CO. At Helen's request, no service will be held. She will be interred at Crescent Grove Cemetery in Tigard, OR. Memorial donations may be made to the Humboldt Area Foundation or Boys & Girls Club of Humboldt County, Inc.
