Thanks Whitey for some of the best times I ever had partying at the Schooner. There was a time about 20-25 years ago when the Schooner was a blast and I even remember that Whitey danced with me once - Power Play was the band playing that night I think.
RIP Whitey & party on!!

Rest in Peace Whitey. Bonnie & family, my condolences on the loss of "Whitey", he was a legend in his own time !! The Schooner back in the 80's & 90's was a hub of fun, partying, pool playing, drinking and seeing all your buddies that were all out doing the same thing , It was the "Place to see, and be seen !! Thank you for so many great years Whitey & Bonnie. Respectfully, Polly Fuller

Whitey was one of the best of the great Eureka bar owners. The Schooner was a "must-go" Saturday night out for many years. His dance hall with the multitude of bands are woven into the memories of many Humboldters. I can't count the nights I spent there.
Above all, he was... if you had his trust... a great, great person to talk to just about anything. He could talk politics, personalities, things going on in town, just everything. It was no surprise to me to walk in sometimes and see prominent Eurekans..sitting at the bar, talking to Whitey. One of my best memories is Jim McKittrick there, fully three-piece suited, with attitude and cigar in hand, lots of people listening, and Whitey.
I didn't play pool seriously until I left Eureka for NorthBeachSanFrancisco. I did well here, but can guarantee you... could never beat Whitey, with that oversized cue ball, at the great game of Three Ball. He was the damn king of that game in his own place.
One of my last real times I saw him several years ago.. I had brought a young lady who was a world-traveler and a law school friend of mine to Eureka on New Year's Eve. We trucked around Eureka, mostly bored, then went to see Whitey. Just sat around and talked about things from 11:45pm-1:45am. Actually was a more memorable New Year's Eve than many.
Also actually worked and bartended for Whitey for a short time before I left Eureka. Things like that can put a crimp in a good relationship. I'm glad that when I left we could get over it..and be friends.
Hi Bonnie.. I was stunned to go online from SF and see Whitey's name in the Times-Standard a few days ago.
Wish I could be up there for the, I read, Oct. 2nd celebration/memorial at the Schooner. I'll be thinking of it..and thinking of Whitey that night.

Bonnie and Sandy, I'm so sorry for your loss. Uncle Whitey was born in 1929, he was the baby of all the boys, and the family, as mom(Gladys) was the baby of the girls! One of my fondest memories of Mom and Uncle Whitey is when he came over and him and Mom would prank people. Too funny, he would call people up and pretend to be the phone repair man! He would ask them to do all sorts of crazy things, until they realize they had been pranked! He and Mom always acted like kids when they got together, it was so nice to see. Least now they and the others are together having one heck of a time I'm sure! Please know that he is in good hands and I'm sure watchin out for you, he loved you both very much! Need anything don't hesitate to ask. Our prayers are with you.....Darlene, David, Amy, Jodi, and the boys..
