Oliver Bruner Obituary

Mr. Oliver Bruner Oliver "Ollie" Bruner, 76, passed away on October 10, 2010 at the UCSF Hospital in San Francisco, California. He was a native of Eureka, CA, and a resident of Arcata, CA. Ollie served in the United States Army. Afterwards, he returned to Humboldt County and met Celeste Machado at a Fireman's Ball in 1959. They were married on February 21, 1960. They spent 50 wonderful years together. Ollie began working for Redwood Electronics in 1966 and was extremely well-known and admired by his co-workers and customers. Though he had many health issues, he continued to work until his retirement at age 70. When he retired on January 28, 2005, the following announcement was published in the Times-Standard: "Redwood Electronics Corp. recently announced the retirement of Ollie Bruner. Bruner started his career in 1966 as an already experienced parts man. Bruner's experience soon earned him a promotion to parts manager, a position he held for the rest of his 39-year tenure. In a press release, the company said many changes have taken place in the electronics industry but one thing remained constant; no matter what a customer needed, Bruner could almost always find it. He is described as an encyclopedia of part numbers and sources. The company and its customers wish him well in retirement." Ollie is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Celeste; his daughter Cheryl Quigley and favorite son-in-law, Gary Quigley; Brother George Bruner; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Oliver and Hazel Bruner; Sisters Virginia Biagi and Dorothy Craig; and brother-in-laws Angelo Biagi and Dale Craig. Ollie's family would like to invite you to attend his services. There will be visitations on Monday, October 18, 2010 from 4-7 pm and on Tuesday from 9-11:00 am at Paul's Chapel, 1070 H Street, Arcata, CA. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at 11:00 am, also at Paul's Chapel. Pall bearers will be George Bruner, Manny Machado, Lena Machado, Don Graham, and Larry Sampson. Following the service, there will be an interment in the Veteran's Garden at Ocean View Cemetery, 3975 Broadway, Eureka, CA, where Ollie will be honored by the military. Memorial Donation may be made in Ollie's name to the American Cancer Society, St. Mary's Catholic Church, or a charity of your choice. Care is under the direction of Paul's Chapel, Arcata, CA. Working with Ollie for 39 years brought me to like almost everything about him. His professional skills, self-deprecating humor (really funny stuff), ability to endure a litany of health problems which would have toppled any but the strongest, and love and pride of Family, to list only of few of his qualities, enriched all of us who were close to him.

Ollie, you were a good and faithful employee at Redood Electronics for all those years and you'll be missed by all who knew you. The race track in Ferndale will miss you too.
