Rose Giuntini Obituary

January 4, 1911- November 25, 2010 Rose Candina Canclini (affectionately known as "Rosie") was born on January 4, 1911 to Silvestro and Clementina Canclini in Crannel (Bullwinkle), California. She died peacefully at home in the arms of her children on November 25, 2010 just 40 days short of her 100th birthday. She was raised on a dairy ranch in Arcata Bottoms where Sun Valley Farms is today. She attended Canal School and Janes School (now the site of Pacific Union School) and Arcata Union High School. On September 22, 1929 she married Angelo Lavagnino at the old St. Mary's Catholic Church in Arcata. She lived in the same neighborhood for 81 years. They had two children, Irene and Angelo, Jr. Rose and Angelo had a very happy and busy life. They enjoyed traveling, dancing, many social activities and charitable works; but most of all being with family, children and especially their grandchildren. Rose was always happiest taking care of the family. She was a homemaker all her life. She was a marvelous cook and baker. Every meal was a gourmet meal made with love. She was known for her delicious cakes and pies and there were always warm delicious cookies waiting at home for her children and their friends. Until her late 90's, Rose had a beautiful vegetable and flower garden in which she loved to work. She made many jars of jams and jellies from her berry patch. Angelo died in an automobile accident in 1971. After Angelo's death Rose became a partner in the family's wholesale beverage business, the L & S Beverage Co., with daughter, Irene, and son-in-law, Gino Simoni. The business was founded in 1959 and sold in 1990. On April 23, 1977 Rose married an old family friend and former classmate, Ugo Giuntini. They were happily married for 23 years until Ugo's death in 1999. They also loved traveling, social activities and being with family and friends. Rose was a Charter member of The Italian Catholic Federation Branch #144, a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sons of Italy Lodge, Umpqua Bank Club 50, the Golden Girls Birthday Club and Monday Morning Coffee Klatch. She was a former member of the Arcata Elementary School P.T.A., Appenini Auxiliary, Eagles Auxiliary, St. Anthony Lodge, SPRSI Lodge, St. Mary's Altar Society and The Legion of Mary. She was an officer in many of these organizations. Rose is preceded in death by parents, Silvestro and Clementina Canclini; husbands, Angelo Lavagnino and Ugo Giuntini; grand-daughter Angela Marie Lavagnino; son-in-law, Gino Simoni; brother and sister-in-law Orlando and Mary Canclini. She is survived by her loving and devoted children, Irene Simoni and Angelo and LeAnne Lavagnino; adored grandchildren Steve Simoni, Bonnie Simoni, Gina and Edgar Roden, Joe and Pam Lavagnino, Peter Lavagnino, Chris and Deborah Lavagnino, Heidi and Tim Hamel; much loved great grandchildren Jennifer and Keith Williams, April Rose Simoni, Kellie Rose Roden, Cori and Jordan Lavagnino, T.J. and Gianna Hamel; and very special great-great Grandchildren Kira, Jasmine, Kaylee and Jade Williams. She is also survived by brother, Elmo Canclini and wife, Thelma; numerous nieces and nephews and cousins; and by a special friend and neighbor who was like a daughter, Marjorie Logan Adams and husband, Pat. She is survived by step-children, Lynn and John Raymond and Dennis Giuntini, and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren. Rose was such a special, beautiful person who always set an example for all her family. She was such an inspiration to all of us. Our "Special Angel" made us feel so very loved, and we will always love her. Special thanks to Father Gerry Gormley, Mad River Community Hospital Home Health, Hospice of Humboldt, and to her special and loving care-giver, Terri Dal Porto. Rose was very special to my husband Joe Bonino and myself. Always a smile, a lover of fun stories, and truly a kind woman. She would sit quietly and then giggle. Rose is who and how we want to be if we make it to 90+ !!!!

Love to all of the family - she will be sorely missed. And we know God is taking good care of her. Julie Williams-Bonino
