Steve, I always thought of you whenever I needed a better role model than the one I was provided. You lived your life with a humble dignity that was a great inspiration to me. You will never know the deep influence you had on me and my family, and we are all better for having known you.

Dear Stevo...,
Thank you for welcoming me into your family. Thank you for marrying me to your niece. Thank you for acquainting me with your outback lifestyle. Thank you for being as rabid a Giant's fan as I am. Thank you for being my friend. I love you through and through and I only wish we could have had a bit longer time together. You gathered good people around you in life and you have a family who loves you. Who could ask for more? I hope the next leg of your journey is as fulfilling as the last.

Bowen Family
My deepest heartfelt thoughts go out to you on your recent loss.
I would like to share a couple of memories of Steve.
One evening I was taking pictures of the Garberville sign on the Benbow Hill. I had pulled off the road on the northbound side of the freeway. Coming down the hill on the southbound side of the freeway was this silver pickup. It turned and drove across every lane of the freeway and pulled up next me. Dumbfounded I looked at the driver, thinking are you crazy, thats when I recognized Steve, he quietly asked if I was OK or needed some help. Stunned I muttered, I'm fine, he said good, just checking and then he sped off across the freeway and headed further down the hill in the southbound lanes.
The other time was when we went to the HSU athletic auction and dinner. The guest speaker was Oakland Raider great Jim Otto. During dinner Steve shared a story about the Raiders and his mom. Seems when the Raiders were just getting started, money was pretty tight. The team couldn't afford warm up jackets, so Steve's mom and other ladys took it upon themselves to make jackets for the team. Steve was very proud of his possession, but remarked he would give it to Jim that evening. Mr Otto remembered the jacket and with heartfelt thanks, he said he would make sure it got into the NFL Hall of Fame, if not there then at least the Oakland Raiders Hall of Fame. Seems Annie, Steve and Jim had one heck of a wonderful evening.
Thats how I will remember Steve, a truly loving and caring man. I'm a better person having know him!!
God Bless You All

There aren't many men in my life that I've truly loved, Steve was one of them. Stu
Steve is/was an intelligent man, a force to be reckoned with, a nonjudgmental teacher who lived his life (and died) as he chose.
Love to his family, and to Steve, forever. Lelia

Steve was one of the greatest friends & brother a fellow human could be lucky enough to meet and know.
In the 8 or 9 yrs. I bartended at the Blue Room I don't belive there was a single time Steve would walk through the door - front or back, that it didn't bring a smile to my face... Good times my 'departed but never forgotton' friend!

My love & condolences go out to all of those who love & miss Steve. As I told Arlo the last time I saw him, the best thing that any of us can do in this life is to leave it a better place for our having been here. That was true of Arlo, and is also very true about Steve. Love you, Uncle - see you on the other side.

Uncle Steve, I have loved you all my life. You have always been one of the kindest people in my life and I cherish the time we spent together. I hope that we will meet again. This picture is of Uncle Steve and my mom, walking up a path. This is how I visualize them right now; walking up the path to their next adventure.
I love you, Uncle Steve!
