Wilfred Williamson Obituary

Sergeant WWII, during the African European Campaign 1940-1945; Husband, Father, Grandfather, Fisherman, Gardener, Handyman born in Magee Mississippi, April 19, 1919 passed away November 30, 2010 at the age of 91. Wilfred & his wife Georgia moved to Eureka from Louisiana in 1946. Wilfred worked in several lumber mills before being hired by the State of California, Department of Public Works, and Division of Highways he retired in 1982. Wilfred was an avid gardener and fisherman, some of the fish he brought home were bigger that his children. He always came home with a gunnysack full of fish; his hobby was making his own flies & jigs. As a gifted handyman, he expanded his own home of 61 years by building two rooms & a porch. He loved to drive around Humboldt County to see the sites, any new construction & many times, we drove out to see the storm damage on the south jetty or rivers. Wilfred Williamson was preceded in death by his Parents Don & Oree Williamson his brothers & sisters; Oyd Williamson; Frank Williamson; Ruby Stone; and Faye Wright. Wilfred's wife Georgia Williamson preceded him in death in 2004. "When King Lear dies in Act V, do you know what Shakespeare has written? He's written, "He dies." That's all, nothing more. No fanfare, no metaphor, no brilliant final words. The culmination of the most influential work of dramatic literature is "He dies."" It takes Shakespeare, a genius, to come up with "He dies." We will always remember his life; for in our hearts & thoughts he lives. Wilfred is survived by his children Betty Webb her husband Mike Webb, Sandra Steffes her husband John Steffes & Norm, Wilfred Norman Williamson. Additionally Wilfred is survived by his Grandchildren Michaela (Kella) Fontaine her husband Alex Fontaine, Matthew Webb & Randall Webb plus numerous nieces and nephews. So sorry to hear of Wilfred's passing. He and his wife were wonderful neighbors and were always there to offer advice. He taught me how to grow a garden which always did well. Not as well as his thou. Wilfred now you & Georgia can grow your own garden in heaven. God Bless...
